In 83′ Kinnelon, and Teaneck were closed already
Kinnelon I believe only lasted maybe a season but Teaneck I’m not sure was closed at that point. Does anyone remember Lake Melody in West Milford! Now that had a serious downhill!
xracer264MemberFixed the Rider-Ed link Brett. Let me know if I can assist you with the program.
Thanks
Gerard
xracer264MemberI would liken it to the MSF course I teach for motorcycles. We tell the students to always wear proper gear and so forth in addition to teaching them how to ride a motorcycle safely. Something can be done along those lines for BMX and bicycles in general.
xracer264MemberI remember Sal. Sal, his Mom and I use to go hang out with at the Perrino’s house. I also bought stuff from Sal. Then he became GHP’s Manager. I have to ask Franco if he has heard from him.
xracer264MemberI work pretty close to there in Parsippany on Route 10. i have to check it out one day… cool
xracer264MemberHey,
This happens in all sports. I recently attended my newphew basketball toury game and the parents are just NUTZ. Yell at thier kids, the refs and other parents. I though to myself… This is why I raced BMX. My dad was not a yeller so if I failed I had noone to let down but me and I was harder on myself that anyone!!!!.
xracer264MemberFrom an outsiders perspective.
I haven’t seen the track yet but, would anyone have a picture of it? What are the actual issues about the jump? The risk of injuries? What % of racers are successfully navigating it? I think everyone what’s a challenging yet somewhat safe environment to race in.

no, Mental did not ride for Thruster. I was referring to the fact that on any given day, especially the big races at Braddock, several Factory Thruster guys would show up: Chris _____, Franco Perrino, etc.
Mental should have been sponsored, but back then “jumpers” didn’t really garner factory support. I gotta believe he’s digging the stuff they do on the X-Games and wishin he was younger!
Team Thruster from BITD (who’s names I can recall) were Chriss Williams, Frankie Chirlo, Marc Arles, John Penna, Franco Perrino, me, Scott Stewart, Brad Dalbec, Adam Vanna, Scottie Penna. John Penna’s sister, Adam Vanna’s Sister and two other gals. There were also three to four other guys whom I can’t recall.
xracer264MemberBeing a father here are some of my thoughts. Overall a parent wants a safe and secure environment for their child and their gear.
If families, parents or guardians are going to hang there a place to sit and spectate would be a start. Maybe a picnic area to have lunch or snacks.
If parents wish to drop off their child, adequate adult supervision would be needed. In addition, some sort of system to prevent the kids from leaving without their parent or guardian.
