Aspartame disease is being increasingly encountered in medical practice. (1-4) Over two-thirds of the population currently consumes the chemical aspartame, most commonly, as “diet” sodas and “sugar-free” products. I have detailed the serious neurological, psychiatric, metabolic, endocrine allergic and addictive aspects of this affliction. (1-5)
The widespread consumption of popular aspartame products that can be absorbed from the mouth and oropharynx should be cause for concern. They include gum, mouthwashes, chewable drugs and vitamins, and rectangular “mouth-freshener” strips placed on the tongue. Sugar-free mints are recommended for low-carbohydrate dieters who experience bad breath.
The prompt and predicable recurrence of symptoms (e.g., headache, dizziness, seizures, confusion, visual features, joint pain) on initial exposure or rechallenge to aspartame in this manner has been impressive. These issues are relevant.
Persons tend to chew aspartame gum up to five times longer than regular gum.
The prompt absorption of this neurotoxin from the mouth and oropharynx, with direct transport to the brain by a unique pathway, has clinical confirmation. (see below)
These products can create an intense craving for sweets due to increased insulin secretion.
The potential for addiction, related largely to the methyl alcohol component of aspartame, is significant. Scores of patients experienced severe withdrawal reactions after abrupt cessation.
The response of a previously well woman illustrates this issue. “I suffered a grand mal seizure watching a movie immediately after applying a Listerine Strip. My friend gave me the strip, and it’s the last thing I remember. Apparently, I stiffened up, my eyes rolled back in my head, and I bit my tongue and drooled. I regained awareness 1/2 hour later as I was being unloaded from the ambulance. A CAT scan, an MRI, blood work and other tests were all inconclusive.”
Persons at high risk for aspartame reactions ought to be warned against using these products. They include pregnant women, children and patients with seizures, migraine, diabetes, hypoglycemia and weight disorders.

Note from Dr. Betty Martini:Please note we have notified Wrigley for years about the information Dr. Roberts has reported for this published article. Rather than remove aspartame from their gum they have now put this toxin in almost all their gums, and mixed with other unsafe sweeteners like acesulfame potassium (caused cancer and leukemia in original studies) and sucralose or Splenda which has a chlorinated base like DDT and can cause autoimmune disease. ( http://www.wnho.net (click on aspartame) and http://www.dorway.com ).
We have also notified Pfizer maker of the Listerine Strips since they came out that consumers were reporting seizures including kids, along with other adverse reactions on the FDA list of 92 symptoms. They won’t even answer my emails anymore.
Wrigley’s and Pfizer have now been sued over poisoning the public with Aspartame. Go to http://www.wnho.net and right on the front page you will see the information on those companies sued so far for having aspartame in their products with full knowledge
XMotoXchickMemberAspartame is used as a sugar substitute. Sugarless gum so you don’t get cavities. Its in lots of foods not just diet soda.
XMotoXchickMemberNo doubt LOL —
XMotoXchickMemberThese are some of the problems with diabetics
ASPARTAME AND DIABETES – BAD COMBINATION

STATEMENT OF H. J. ROBERTS, M.D., CONCERNING THE USE OF PRODUCTS CONTAINING ASPARTAME (NUTRASWEET) BY PERSONS WITH DIABETES AND HYPOGLYCEMIA.
I have treated many patients with diabetes mellitus and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in my
capacity as a Board-certified internist and an endocrinologist member of the Endocrine Society). Since both groups shold abstain from sugar, I initially rejoiced that these persons had an acceptable and presumable safe sugar substitute in aspartame.
Unfortunately, many patients in my practice, and others seen in consultation, developed serious metabolic, neurologic and other complications that could be specifically attributed to using aspartame products. This was evidenced by:
*The loss of diabetic control, the intensification of hypoglycemia, the occurrence of presumed insulin reactions (including convulsions) that proved to be aspartame reactions, and the precipitation, aggravation or simulation of diabetic complications (especially impaired vision and neuropathy) while using these products.XMotoXchickMemberThere is a study done on the diabetics and on the affects on small children
It has been stated that small children should not injest Aspartame
Ever see that little thing on bottles that says this product contain phenylketonurics
That is your aspartame warning… but you really wouldnt know it…The reason for that little information is that There is a defect found in 1 in every 15000 people who lack the ability to process this chemical. That is why children shouldnt have it cause they cant tell who has this defect. In the UK it is outlawed to give aspertame to children under 3. There are other countries who have just banned it.XMotoXchickMemberI am all for population control.. you can ask Brett I said that Human Breeding should only be allowed every 4 years.. That still doesn’t justify the FDA selling out to big business and allowing something on the market that shouldn’t be allowed. In fact I think people who don’t have children should be the ones getting the tax deductions. I am not burdening society and the environment with my offspring. But I still have to pay taxes for someone else’s kids to go to school.
XMotoXchickMemberThe multi-billion dollar aspartame industry would like you believe that “aspartame kills” is an “urban legend” and that you’d have to drink 100 cans of diet soda a day to be harmed by aspartame. This is just simply not true. Their main claim is that the 3 components of aspartame are found in many natural foods and are therefore safe. This is kind of like saying carbon monoxide is safe because all it contains is carbon & oxygen, the same components of carbon dioxide. Methanol (wood alcohol), which makes up 10% of aspartame and is highly toxic (adult minimum lethal dose is 2 teaspoons), is also found in some fruits & vegetables like tomatoes. However, methanol is never found in natural foods without ethanol & pectin, its “antidotes” if you will (detailed facts below). Ethanol & pectin prevent methanol from being metabolized into formaldehyde (embalming fluid) & formic acid (same chemical as fire ant venom), both deadly toxins. An ethanol drip is even the standard emergency room treatment for methanol poisoning. Aspartame contains no ethanol or pectin, therefore the methanol is converted to formaldehyde and formic acid. Phenylalanine and aspartic acid, the other 2 components of aspartame, are amino acids found in natural foods but always as part of long chains of many different amino acids to form complex protein molecules that take humans 12 hours to gradually break down & assimilate. According to the doctors below, when consumed by themselves these 2 amino acids require no digestion and quickly enter the brain & central nervous system at abnormally high levels, overstimulating brain cells to death and causing many other health problems.
“Pro” aspartame people point to industry sponsored short term tests, ignoring independant tests. They point to “reliable” health sites, organizations, foundations etc. that are sponsored, funded & fed “facts” by companies that profit from aspartame. And of course, the FDA approved it so “it must be safe”, neglecting to mention that the FDA denied aspartame approval for over 8 years until the newly appointed FDA commissioner Arthur Hull Hayes overruled the final scientic review panel, approved aspartame, and then went to work for G.D. Searle’s (initial owner of aspartame) public relations firm at $1,000 a day. Hayes has refused all interviews to discuss his actions. The FDA also urged Congress to prosecute G.D. Searle for “specific false statements or concealed facts” stemming from Searle’s testing of aspartame. However, the 2 government lawyers assigned to the case decided against prosecuting G.D. Searle and then joined G.D. Searle’s law firm! Even the National Soft Drink Assn. filed a strong protest letter (available below) in 1983 against the approval of aspartame for use in beverages, saying “aspartame is inherently, markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media.” Also, the FDA still allows hydrogenated oils to be used, does that make them safe?
XMotoXchickMemberIn regards to people never going for it. The fastest growing industry right know is organic and that’s why Walmart and the factory farms want in on it. Remember about 5 months ago Walmart started putting adds out about its new line of organic product and then it all just vanished. Well here is another of Walmarts slimy deceptions. Walmart put out its organic products and no one could figure out how Walmart was putting out organic products at a fraction of the cost . So a well know organic watchdog group Cornucopia started researching what Walmart was doing and brought it to the USDA attention that Walmart is in direct violation of federal organic regulations and it is know under investigation. Some of these are putting regular processed food in organic wrappers.
Here are the reportsXMotoXchickMemberWell why don’t people make a stand and tell the corps to go fuck off… I do I don’t buy in supermarkets. I shop in the health food store around the block . I also stopped shopping in Walmart when I found what a nasty corporation they are. As far as the Internet I am not as addicted as the rest of the world . Gave up EBay long time ago when I found out about the illegal animal trade from China it allows. Never used amazon but signed petitions against it when it was caught selling animal fighting videos illegally in the united states. I buy product from a company called Serve International, who only endorses fair trade for developing countries so I am not buying into slave labor.
The problem with Americans is that they are Lazy and Selfish . They want everything cheap and easy. If they got off their asses and paid a little more for healthy food instead of that hormone, antibiotic tainted crap they call food then maybe they wouldn’t buy so much food and then the kids wouldn’t be a bunch of cardiac arrests waiting to happen. I am not a rich person and I know what it means to struggle and has worked 3 jobs at once to make ends meet. What its about is choosing to spend your money wisely. It can be done.
So as far as low income is concerned it has nothing to do with it. I know that road very well.XMotoXchickMemberThe answer is very simple. But you have to remember the answer and the solution are two things. The answer is to Be honest and to treat people fair, and for companies to practice a ethical and moral protocol for the greater good. Walmart has taken another rout in their journey. For Walmart to practice this it would have to restructure and gut its whole enterprise. This will never happen for the simple reason the Company lives and breaths on greed and arrogance. It believes it is untouchable. and that becomes a dangerous came to play. That state of mind can very well bring its demise.
XMotoXchickMemberI don’t see how stating facts is bashing. I didn’t say Walmart sucks . I stated a situation that happened By a company who decides to treat people as cattle and not human beings….
I also believe that a person should never be afraid to stand up for what is morally right. Regardless how small your numbers are in a situation it only takes one person to change the world.
Walmart has over stepped its bounds and takes advantage of people more then it helps.XMotoXchickMemberI will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of
this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. Many people were being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence.. methanol toxicity is!
Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening
condition. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We’ve seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia
Books on this subject are available:
EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS written by Dr. Russell Blayblock
(Health Press 1-800-643-2665) AND: DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE- written by DR H. J. Roberts, also a diabetic specialist. These two doctors will soon be posting a position paper with case
histories on the deadly effects of Aspartame on the Internet.
According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, “We
are talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the
use of this deadly poison.”Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when
Aspartame was included 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning it’s use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings and still, nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Sadly, MONSANTO’S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED!!There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this
deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a piece of the Aspartame pie.” I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of
Aspartame, knows how deadly it is. And isn’t it ironic that MONSANTO
funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians? This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. These cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products.Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would
require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants. The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioral symptoms. The bill was killed. It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for
this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting
and uninformed public.XMotoXchickMemberBrittle that was because your appendix exploded….. 😀
