I raced a national with the S&B team at Shorham back in 1991 and the track was top notch. Long, smooth, and well maintained. Has the layout changed over the years? or just the features?
Brian.
OldSchool01GMember01G was my original NBL number that they issued me in 1987 or 88 when I started. My first beginner race was like 14 or 15 beginner at the Kutztown “Rad” Track in Kutztown, PA (RIP 😥 )
Too bad I’ll never get that number again when I decide to saddle up again.
OldSchool01GMemberLove the Pics Dave, wish I was on the gate with all the boys….although, I don’t think I stopped racing til’ after 92…..I probably just didn’t make the main HA, HA!!!
OldSchool01GMemberAre they the Beech trails?? I live in Budd lake, but I’m moving to Lafayette in June. I’m looking to start riding/racing again and I am looking for a place to practice……how do I get there??…………of course after it dries up from the winter thaw…..
OldSchool01GMemberEveryone is on the right track….it’s all about exposure, there are only limited quantities. I remember NJN doing a segment at an EHT state race back around 1988 or 89.
They also had the 1987 Worlds from Orlando on Nickelodeon, which you can see on bmxvideos.net (an excellent race coverage site! by the way!!)
The closest we’ve come to “main-stream” as of late is when they had the Xgames in philly and did the super downhill bmx from woodward, PA.
OldSchool01GMemberI think I’m going to hold on to the cyclecraft for now. They’re a little hard to come by now…..Besides, I might get the itch to race it again sometime….maybe the 07 Fall Classic Old School race or something.
No,
I don’t no the where abouts’ of the Godfreys or Tokash. Dan 75M actually lives a lot closer to where the Godfreys live or used to live. I do remember riding there back yard trails with a bunch of people after a flemington race one time….lots of fun!
One guy I know used to race back in the mid-late 80’s John Nicholson, from Lake Hopatcong/Landing area now owns a bike shop called Cycleworks on Route 206 in Stanhope, NJ he’s mostly into mountain biking and road racing now though…
Another family I used to talk to from the same area was the Carpenters….Mr. Carpenter used to race against Bob Warnike in the Geritol 40 and over cruiser class on a regular basis….
OldSchool01GMemberYes!
I don’t remember the 200 bucks……….. but I do remember the chrome Boss cruiser Frame and Fork, I built it up and raced cruiser class for a few seasons with Lynch, Shepley, the Sherman Tank, Keith Tokash, etc. I should have never parted with that cruiser, I sold it sans 180mm profile cranks which is swapped onto my 20″ to get rid of the 175mm cranks. (Ah! those were the days….4130 and no euro BB’s, Crupi and Trog pedal cages that would turn your shins into minced meat if you slipped a pedal bad enough……)
I still remember the cavemans multi-color neon bike, what kinda frame was that anyway??
