Dale wouldnt blast unless your a tool and you deserve it.
miken1973MemberBest of luck dave. I was looking through old race results from the late 80’s and early 90’s its amazing to see your name among a few others. Good luck with what ever you up to!! — Mike Nunn
miken1973MemberYes it does happen I started racing in 84 so I very aware of tracks coming and going. I remember your skate park I rode it quite a few times and enjoyed it. I will compliment you because it was ahead of its time especially for NJ back then. Growing up in Middlesex County myself it was all we had. I come out to races and once a blue and most riders haven given up on flemington and thats a shame. I am no hipocrit(I cant spell thats a given) I have even given up on it a bit myself. I havent been there in year or two. I have no problem with people trying to open new tracks and start new things thats fantastic thats progression just dont forget what you already have. THis is NJ open space is not common and land cost a premium. Add in insurance and liability risk when everyone sues and its very hard to open new tracks. It took ten plus years to get a town to build a practice track. You read newspaper articles in local and regional papers about towns trying to save landmarks of historical value, a peice of their heritage. Thats basically my pitch about flemington. Mullica hill i didnt shed to many tears for. FLemington if it goes will be missed and people will regret it. I check these forums from time to time Brett and I agree with a lot of you ideas and others I will agree to disagree but enjoy it just the same. Good luck with future endeavors.

My first race was at Pete’s bike shop in 1979 on the Flemington Oval track.
So I remember all that stuff.
History though is just that history.
If any track or skatepark or whatever can’t make the mustard it’s gonna go away. It happens.
Damn, it happened to my own ramp-park in S Plainfield.
But new things will take it’s place, a lot of times they can even be better.
My place shut down, and new places popped up.
I’m not calling for flemington to shutdown.
I’m saying that if new people want to start new places then why shouldn’t they?
I don’t really flaunt anything, I just try to get the word out.
My historic footprint on NJ is tantamount to nothing.I’m thinking I may have to refocus my energies in BMX.
In fact that’s a good idea.
I’m gonna have to talk to a few people.miken1973Member@bmxmom156 wrote:
“If rundown becomes shutdown, then there is nothing to do about it”

For a guy who likes to flaunt his “historic footprint” on the sport this is an ass backwards statement. I do not race anymore but I remember my first race at Flemington 20 years ago this summer. Shame on the bob t and the NBL dont forget kids Flemington NJ was the home of the NBL for a short time and one of the longest running tracks in the country that never shut down. It makes me happy to see all the old skoolers coming back to the sport either by themselves or with families but dont forget that big gap inbetween you were not around and the good people who did a lot when you were not there. I agree with bmxmom dont forget what you already have. It would be great to have new tracks but all three barely get by now. Lets not Forget Stevie Bevins who brought that track back to life in the mid 90’s the man died and had his ashes placed in the garden next to the starting hill. That statement literarly steps on his grave. Howell right now is the zenith of NJ bmx the best its ever been period but Flemington in mid 90’s is the BMX I loved and will always remember.

York is bad a**. I may do that. When I was stupid gung ho crazy go nuts for BMX I used to head out there on Wednesday nights for races.
Then there’s also the thought of going up to Cedar to get some secret training in for the national.
miken1973Membershould also note this is the last year for bensalem. I am 33 and my first time there I was 15!!! this is a track with a long history in aba and nbl and will be missed.

I bought my ABA license in 2005 hoping to race. My local track charges $5 to practice. I paid a few times and said screw it, tracks too hard to race on why waste money paying for gates. Almost no ones paying to practice. End result the track that used to draw up to 60 motos on a Friday night if not more cant fill 20 motos (sure 20 motos but 3 riders each or 4 lol).
Some riders, myself included, would just show up to do gates and sometimes got talked into racing. Thats happening less now that you have to pay just to practice. I remember once at Coal Canyon. Was there just to hang and do some gates. This 22-30 cruiser guy wanted to race adults not kids so he asked me and Claude Svenginy to race. We said ok. (We beat him all three motos (he thought I guess cause we didnt race we must not be good), he got so pissed, he even tried to crash me).
That entire class happened cause Practice was free. If it wouldnt have been 3 less racers woulda raced.First Pros and factory stars would race it. The number of nationals were increased, more districts were added Cal went from 4 to like 23. District now meant next to nothing to many. Pro and Factory riders stopped racing but kept practicing. Then they started charging for practice (see Democrats tax plan). Less people showed up and it became less fun to go do gates even. Then they raised taxes (read entry fees). Even less started going. Now there were even more nationals and tracks got so hard- could you risk injury on a local?
Hardly anyone showed and now the tracks in SoCal usually cant break 30 motos and often don’t break 10.
If I ran an indoor track Id race it every week in the winter. Then on the off weekend day have an open jam session for like $5-10 all day for members of the sanction ($15-20 for non members or whatever covers extra insurance costs). You can work on gates and sections without worrying about tiring yourself out. You can ride the ramps and the off track Jumps if you dare and insurance allows. Both days you’d have food and beverage and some parts in a Pro shop or trailer. Id have a lounge with a TV and videos. And a spinning class for caveman.
The only thing I disagree on is tracks being too hard. Maybe out in Cali but out here tracks are too easy or too goofy. But the blame of low moto counts and dwindling local programs is the sanctions Ie bob tedesco and Clayton John . THe emphasis is going to nationals. No one wants to risk getting hurt at a local and the competition is not as intense as the national level. Therefore the numbers dropped. Back when flemington moved down the hill the moto counts took a good hit and so did the state series. People only showed to race the state series. So it the rules changed that you had to hit a certain amount of locals. THis should apply to the national level racing too! Get rid of these stupid regional nationals(the gold cup series seems to work I dont know why but it does) cut the regular nationals in half and your local programs will pick up. race your five nationals add in 10 locals and cut out the regionals and NBL could have a better program. or make system were 10 locals can equal credit for one national. Humans are stupid animals give them more rewards or incetnives to do something and they will!!!!
miken1973MemberI remember that one aba indoor in the poconos in that horse barn. Some nitwit slid on the ice and wrecked my car while it was parked. THe time i went there they had to unplug the gate to get it to fall. It was freezing and rob clarke kept forgetting to do the second lap and didnt transfer. Very small track but interesting. Never did the wood one cedar had heard it was abismal . Raced in Jersey city a few times that was fun but a different era that type of track wouldnt work now adays. there was a indoor track off cape cod for a few years in the early to mid 90’s that was pretty cool we would go to the regional there a few times. Went to deleware Ohio once and that was terrible place and those girls were ugly right Salzmann!!! leave it to the cranford locals to bring dogs to the room! THe Dome outside cleavland was awesome. I went there with the Bonillas a few years ago. The track was awesome–had a bar– but it was a bit cold. Harrisburg and comumbus wre always good tracks. Tennesse I did once and it was ok. the Kentucky worlds was a embarrasement. Cant think of any more indoor tracks I know Ohio had a couple other ones that were good. I think there is one update NY most are in the midwest. NJ is a huge distribution hub and indoor space requires a premium price so it will be hard to get a location with low costs.
miken1973MemberI am going to try. I am not going to race maybe pop out once in a while for some gates. I was going to check egg harbor this weekend but the weather and my son is getting baptised on sunday kind of cancelled it. when your tack opens I will come check it out
