MacdaddyMember
Zach McLaughlin went 2nd in 12 nov on sat then turned expert and went 3-1-1- and 7th in the main on Sunday in his first ever x race
MacdaddyMemberDave, I want to hear how you got your “real” nicknames – HAM and CRAZYLEGS
MacdaddyMemberHard to tell about local pts. this year 7 in moto meant 2 motos and a main. I’ll be interested in how they work the regional series.
MacdaddyMemberBrett, if I can be of any help, ask. I live in Pa. but my son races in NJ. It is hard for me to get to any tracks other than on a race day or practice night. If something can be done on those days, i will help.
MacdaddyMemberWhat the heck????? he called this site a “complaint department” but the first post is a complaint. interesting. Talk to brett once or twice before you spout off. There is a lot of complaining here because there is a lot to complain about. There are major problems in this state and “grabbing a broom or shovel” is not going to change them.
MacdaddyMemberWait…. so my 12 yo son who turns 13 in March still races the same way as this year? race your age? does the Dec.31 date effect him? AAARRRGGG!!! why not leave crappy enough alone
MacdaddyMemberBill, that’s the one although they widened the first jump. I just want to know who thought it was a good idea to give this “track” a big race.
MacdaddyMemberExactly what I have been saying. Case in point. We just got back from the ABA redline cup finals in dayton OH and have some observations. First, Dayton is @ 40 miles from Indiana, I thought that it was supposed to be the East. Most of the East coast riders did not show because of the distance. There were only @100 motos(most of witch the nbl would consider mid-west) so I would call that poor decision making on who gets this race. It would be akin to the NBL having its East coast regional championship there. I dont know how well attended it would be. Second, I dont think a rep from the ABA saw the track. Bill, you would have been right at hone as it was a glorified trail set. In today’s bmx there are a few certainties: one is that there will be berms big enough to pass on and gain speed. My son, who is 12 and is @5 feet tall was taller than two of the three berms. Yes, I said that there were only 3 turns. The first was a lond sweeping left hand turn with a 5 ft. berm. Anyone who went on the berm lost 2-3 bike lengths. The second was another left hand 180 degree turn with a 6-7 ft berm. This should have been the place for tech riders like my son to pass, but there was no place to hi-low, or block pass. The last turn was a right 180 that had a 3 ft berm, wow. I am telling you guys this, not to complain(my son got second both days) but to show you that the ABA has the same lame brains giving out the nationals etc. BTW, my son said that while he loved riding the track, he hated racing the track. The third, if you got an outside gate you were done unless you happened to be justin posey. All weekend in my son’s races, whoever got the inside lane won. One kid had all inside lanes all weekend on sat he fell at the line in the lead for third. On Sun he won the moto but got gate 7 in the main, and finished 3rd. All weekend long there was no really close races, just a long train of riders.
On a good note, the fack that they bring officials to the race makes for a better run race. there are no volounteers on the corners or scoring. The announcer was much better than any of the NBL’s and they made is easier to protest. My son and another rider protested the finish on Saturday.(didnt cost us anything for the video protest) It was right there and the official could look right away and correct the scoring. The ABA also has a better staging system.
MacdaddyMemberI wanted to wait until after the redline cup but… We would like to thank greg. Right after the clinic zach wrote down his goal, to make the main at the grands and win the redline cup. well he went 4th in the main and ended up 3 overall. I’ll let you know how he does on the 2nd part of his goal next week.
Thanks again Greg, we hope to see you next year as an expert.
MacdaddyMemberIt isn’t a bad idea. it is just not going to happen. we need to concentrate on the things that can be changed – rider count, better state management, better track management, better state series. That should make NJ one of the best in bmx, either sanction. it should also keep us busy for a few years.
MacdaddyMemberDave, neither suck, and that is my point. If we lived in utopia there would be only 1 sanction with all of the good thing and none of the bad.
MacdaddyMembereither the standard or the staats are very good bets. I would stay away from the supercross. Everyone I have spoken to has had problems either with the frame or the company or both.
MacdaddyMemberOh and Bill, again you are mistaking personell problems with sanction problems. The ABA did not have anything to do with correcting the problem at that track, locals did. The same MUST happen in NJ. The popularity contest you mention is prevalent in NJ, but for it to be an NBL thing, there must be the same problem everywhere, and that you cannot say.If that were the case, then the problem at this other track should be considered an ABA problem. Right?
To set the record straight, we race both sanctions almost equally locally, and like both sanctions for different reasons. I am NOT anti ABA. On the contrary, we are heading out to Ohio this week end for the Redline Cup. If there was a NJ ABA track we would probably find time to go there as well. We have tried to get racers from both sanctions to try the other, with little success. My rants are about fixing problems and assigning blame where it belongs if it belongs there.
MacdaddyMemberJust another thought. Bill said that mr.knipe was a dictator, well We speak to people in florida and they hate the state commish. they think she is a B*%#h. guess what? they dont vote her out because she gets the job done. sometimes a dictator can be a good thing.
MacdaddyMemberAHA! bill, we race both sanctions. EVERYTHING you stated as problems are NOT nbl problems but personell problems in the state of NJ. If all opf these were delt with, what then? There seems to be an elitism coming from both sides. We see it every time we go to an ABA track also. “We cant go to cbmx/bensalem – thats an nbl/aba track and we only race aba/nbl.” I know that you personally prefer aba , thats fine. I am also aware of your location. BUT>>> it seems that every time someone mentions a NJ problem, the answer is ABA. If all of the tracks were ABA and the same people were in charge, and the same apathy occurred through the last few years, everyone would be calling for a change to the nbl, its only human nature. What I am trying to do is stop the knee-jerk reaction thats happening. We are blaming the santion for things that are bewond their control.
Do I wish that Bob T. or a rep. from the nbl would come on here and discuss the problem? Sure. I appreciate the input the ABA rep. has(sorry i forgot his name and am too lazy to look it up) but how much of that is because of all the bitching going on about the nbl? I am not a cynical person but one has to wonder.
About the state series, if we had a state series like the one in Florida or conn no one would be saying anything. Geez I dont even live in NJ, lets fix the problems not run away from them. The flyer thing is a great start, so is the rider council. Unfortunatelt, how serious can the the “state” take it if some of the people there are advocating either a change to ABA or forming their own sanction? I’ll tell you – not very.
rhere is a fine line between oiling the squeeky wheel and throwing the whole chair out. I’ll say again, fix the problem. Figure out what is the single biggest problem and fix that. Then move on to the next problem and fix that. I personally think that the rider count at locals is the most inportant problem. Fix it. dont worry about wether the state series is screwed up, or the people in charge dont listen, fix the one problem Once you have proven that you can fix it people will take it more seriously. Then fix the state series.I want you to know Bill that I am NOT personally attacking you with this We have pm’d each other and I think you are open to whatever will help. So am I. If I thought that all of NJ’s problems would be solved by switching sanctions, I would be all over it. But all I hear is how the ABA is GOD and the nbl is the Devil. Please. And I am not backing off my statement earlier, I wasnt all those brave people out there (excluding leadsled and bill- because i have seen them) to even try aba before they spout off. If I go to the aba web site, I know who all the riders are and I know that there are only 22 NJ riders in the ABA. Step up or Shut up.
