I need to have 2 NBL Officials to hold a gate practice. I am working on an additional (other than me), but as of now it is a regular open track, I can’t guarantee that there will be a gate operating. One of those deal where he will make it if he can. I know you guys want the gate practice, but since I can’t guarantee it, I wanted you all to know.
LorenguinnessextremeMemberJust told my 6 yr old the story and he says, “why didn’t he just stop and move it?”
Out of the mouths of babes!
guinnessextremeMemberLets say instead of him ‘asking’ you to move it, he just made a comment to his buddy, obviously loud enough for you to hear it, about the wheelbarrow being in the way and then proceeded to ride by the wheel barrow multiple times at high speeds….
I would blow it off and think, “You lazy piece of crap, why don’t you just move it”.
If I then heard from the track director that said individual actually complained about it to him, I would think, “what an a$$hole!”
Don’t ask me how I know this like I was there!!
guinnessextremeMemberLeadsled1, my son is Kyle Hamblin. I believe he rode with JD at the Kevin Anderson benefit. He remembers him as having the full face helmet…if I am not mistaken you had a Monster Energy full face? FWIW, I was riding the urban camo specialized mtn bike. Kyle is looking forward to racing someone his age at the Nat. See you there ?
guinnessextremeMemberFWIW, the NBL told me they need to mail the point info for confidentiality reasons…you know, so you don’t see that someone else has 18 and the NBL dropped the ball!
CWCCRider, your son sounds alot like mine. We will see what happens in a week at the Nats.
My other son by contrast is 6 and turned Novice after wiping up the NJ 5 and under rookie class last year and had no competition. Now he gets to race 8 and 9 year old novice class, at least on the local level. You can’t win either way!

guinnessextremeMemberI was just thinking that ‘hey, theres still competive at the rookie level’, then it occurred to me THATS THE PROBLEM! cuz knowone wants to move up for some reason.
I called the NBL yesterday about my sons moveup points. They told me that I need to email them with his name, address, NBL #, last 4 digits of his social security number and they will perform an audit and MAIL the results to me.
guinnessextremeMemberOk, I have an 8 Rookie. He started in 2004, raced a few races then broke his arm (not on his bike). Anyway, he raced the EHT Nat last year, got royally wooped and didn’t make his main. He ended up NJ#2 in 7 Rookie last year. This year I started him out as a rookie to see how he did. Second overall both weeks at HC. I told him it is up to him when he turns Novice, unless he is creaming the competition. We had 2 new 8 rookies this past week and I could tell they were outclassed. He tends to have somewhat of a self confidence problem but is pretty psyched so far this year. I am encouraging him to turn Novice for Sunday at the Nat. One thing I would NEVER allow him to do would be to sandbag on purpose in order to not get points. Thats pathetic!
guinnessextremeMembercorrected…sorry!!! time to change the calendar 😳
guinnessextremeMemberCraig, you gonna run double duty? I got an 18t rear today. You would be surprised at the bike shops who don’t understand the concept of a single speed mountain bike! Anyway, assuming the chain fits and I don’t need a half link I should have it up and running this Saturday. Which means it will definitely rain!!!
guinnessextremeMemberLegend, we want to help the kids, not scare the shit out of them!!!
Actually a pretty good idea, Brett. I am going to have to take a look at the logistics at HC. May only require a separate line…kind of like new riders go to the front.
guinnessextremeMemberGotta tell you, I have been in there (Beacon) a few times and they at least acted like they had no idea there was a track back there. I thought it was me. Some people wouldnt see an opportunity if you put it in there backyard!
guinnessextremeMemberI don’t think the logistics/liability would allow the track to provide actual daycare, but perhaps a fenced in area with only one way out with a sandbox would be good. Obviously you couldnt ‘leave’ your little ones in there while you race, but at least you could buddy up with someone. Not sure how/where we would put one at HC, but it is a thought.
That babysitter idea is a good one too!
guinnessextremeMembera free “race” is good, problem is they still gotta pay the $30 to the NBL up front. I guess it is mostly insurance, but it would be nice if you could pay the $15 first to try it out, then pay the $30 remainder.
Then again, what the hell do I know!?!?!
Loren
guinnessextremeMemberGreat! Welcome aboard. It will be great to beat you!!!! 😆
guinnessextremeMemberKevin, we are all pulling (and praying) for you.
My kids had a chance to ride with your son at the benefit and he sure is a special kid.<><
