LOL whoooa im so not Mr. Old School. The last BMX company I started was in 1997 and we only made AL frames with canti mounts.
I was just trying to save a rider just returning from being away 20 years, from thinking that he had to get Carbon forks to compete. The advantage in my opinion of Carbon over say ChroMo forks is nothing like comparing say 1pc cranks and flights.

Im not saying you cant win on Carbons lol. In fact top Pro riders use them , most get them free is all Im pointing out. I’m sure carbon forks will be in the Olympics rofl. Im saying, Im also betting that not all riders will be on Carbon forks.

Thats it I’m entering the Over 40 Novice Cruiser, No Clip, Fat guys class Olympic team and prove that you dont need carbons to compete!

Man Scythes have to be the sexiest forks since Redline made Tubular forks.

Is it all freesytle or you also do racing?

in reply to: Camp Woodward and Greg Hill Speed Seminars #35642

I have some knowledge on Clinics having started teaching them in 1981 and making a living do them in SoCal for a couple years. I have also taught them in 28 states or so. (BTW none in NJ but I did teach a few in PA including Bensalem in 97).

Greg Hill is not only a great rider, he is a great coach. Anyone including myself could learn from him. There are only a handfull (5) guys I would put at the top, when it comes to teaching BMX and Greg Hill is one of them.

And its not just for beginners. After one of the clinics I taught, one of the Pros helping caught me by suprise, saying he learned some stuff from me. Greg can point out little things you do and dont even notice and some of the little things you should be doing, but are not.

A huge part of winning is the mental challenges. Greg can help any rider focus and work on that as well as how to improve the basics.

Thats your wife? Then who was the Blonde girl I saw you with?
    LOL JK Congrats Ant.
If you see Caveman help him pick a good girl like yours, he always picks the wrong ones.

    wow so many memories.
Across I-95 from the old State Penn is a new Prison.
next to that new Prison was the old Quaker City Gun Club.
I used to work at it, starting when I was 12 and worked there when I started racing BMX.
Eventually politicians shut down the Gun Club thinking it was unsafe next to the Prison.
Um the GC was there for like 100 years.
Plus if you escaped from a Prison woudl you go into a gun club full of men that know hwo to use guns, including off duty law enforcement officers?

And New Hope, OMG that is where I worked in High School.
    “Mothers Restraunt” on main street.
Try it if same owner the place still rocks I bet for food.
In fact I got three New Hope guys into BMX and took them to a few races.
Plus a few of my other freinds lived just outside of the town like I did. Kim Wolfkill, Scot Wessner and one other whos name escapes me all raced.

Rich absolutely not a low blow lol. I mean guys always think that since they dont know who I am, that Im some guy that used to race BITD and hasnt progressed with the sport and Ive been left behind. I’ve been in the sport the entire time, maybe a year off or two now and then.

Progression is in the eye of the beholder.
I think BMX has regressed and the sport is in much worse shape then ever.
When was the last time 2 or 3 new tracks opened in NJ?

I think Answer Scythe forks are a complete waste of money. But some have money to waste. If you gave me Scythe forks and Rich you had Astubulas, I bet you’d still beat me. No doubt in my mind.

Racers that waste their money are working on the wrong area. Training, riding, doing gates, racing are the best ways to get good. Im willing to bet some of the riders that make the USA Olympic team WONT be using Scythes.
Again if I was rich Im sure Id run a set just cause they are so frigging cool. [/u]

Rich lol Im not some guy whos just coming back after being away for 20 years. I taught my last clinic here in SoCal i think in 2000 or 2001.
Joey Licata is a freind of mine and Answer sponsored my last team and I’m sure Ill work with him again.

But the Carbon forks for Pros is not what everyone thinks. For lil kids they are awesome. Anyone think different, dont take my word. get to know some Pros and find out how long they go before switching out their Carbon forks.
Find out if they love them so much they pay for them because they think the Pro sized riders Carbon forks are worth their money and make a difference worth paying for.

In all my clinics during the 90s I told kids not to buy the over priced, Pro Forx. That they were a gimmick and none of the Pros would use them if they weren’t being paid. As soon as the Pros stoppped getting paid to use them Pro Forx went by bye.

I dont think new school bikes suck. I think most of the new school cruiser suck.
I own a 2005 Redline and it sucks. But lol its up to everyones riding style and taste. Like I hated my Nickle Patterson BITD and loved my Quadangle, yet others loved the Patterson and hated the Quad.

Personally I love how low profile bikes look, but hate how they handle.
The center of gravity is just too low for me.
I’m all for the new era, just looking for a cruiser that handles as well as my old Boss or Profile cruiser. If its a 2007 model then thats ok with me, my helmet is carbon fiber, so i love new school stuff it it works well.

Now Rich Farside never sucked and can ride a pogo stick and still ride well, but us riders with Zero natural talent lol need all the help we can get.
For those that only met Rich when he was a factory Superstar on Hutch or DB, I’ve watched him race since he was on Checkered Flag and he was amazing and the man to beat even then. Rich was the East Coast Pete Loncarevich, all talent.[/u]

Ill have to check out the SX cruiser then.
I really want a SE cruiser cause im digging the retro jersey they released and can get Aeros made to match, buy some brown and blue vans and live out the SE dream i never fullfilled.

But the SE cruiser is the new school style and looks like it rides like crap.
Id feel silly using SE gear on a SX though 🙁

in reply to: Old school, New school ? #35578

Personally I dont like the new school cruisers.
I have a 2005 redline and its ok, but not as good riding as my Boss or Profile.
I also liked the old school Limo cruiser and JMC 24 better then these new cruisers.

I still dont use clips and wont, ever. But I have switched to a full face. I got a good deal on a Answer Carbon Fiber and its liiight.

Carbon forks? Can you say flex and age poorly. None of the Pros would use them if they didnt get them for free.

Seems to me like Chromo is making a comeback, but I do like the Alum fames as much, of course I dont jump.

Shimano Saint (and now a BMX version called MXR or something) cranks have replaced Flights and Profiles as the choice crank.

in reply to: VERY IMPORTANT Olympic NEWS! #35574

Wow LIVE in Prime time!!!!! NICE.
    20 cameras amazing coverage.

Heres my prediction for the Olympics. Lots of coverage and a quick increase in riders and tracks. Outside sponsors will step up a bit.
The new riders will find most ABA and alot of NBL tracks dangerous and just not race or quickly quit.
Outside sponsors wont see enough attendence to sponsor events and pull out.
BMX racing will continue, forever, but will never be as big as it once was, even with the Olympics, unless a new sanction rises up and takes control.

Tons of parents will see an insane track with nasty crashes and go ‘my childs not doing that!’ The rest of the kids will quickly find out riding a modern track is not fun for new riders and leave. The jumpers that could handle racing a track, dont like racing anyhow, and were back to square one.
