One of the little rules in BMXL is that we are only going to have two levels Factory and Bike Shop. To qualify as Bike shop they must have a Bike Shop brick and mortar front. So lets say Bob Lawnmower wants to run a team, fine, they just have to work with a local Bike shop and Bobs can sponsor say Chip-n-Dales. Andys team gets some support and Bobs Lawnmower gets some advertisement.

To be a factory team in BMXL youd have to make bikes. So Answer can support Staats or whatever like the old Aero and Max deals. True factory and bike shop teams.

What else will BMXL do to encourage teams to enter team sheets and pick up riders? You’ll just have to show support for BMXL and help us start to change the face of BMX to find out what I have in mind.

    Is that Roger in here?
If so he can tell you one of the main things he did when his track was hurting for riders. Thats one of the main things I feel is killing BMX. If more people in BMX just did the simple things that he did and took it further even BMX could be as big as its ever been, BIGGER!

BMXL is trying to support flatland comps and dirt and ramp. We even have forums for each but no activity yet. Im so bummed at the lack of participation in BMXls forums when the new site goes up I’ll probably just close them. In about 1 week.

BMX used to have wayyyyy less Nationals and way more teams. Having run two factory teams its near impossible to field a team. Say you make just 75% of all ABA and NBL races thats like 100 nationals. entry fees alone would be 1.3 million dollars and add hotels and food and your like at 1 trillion. Untill a sanction steps back and runs less nationals or a new sanction is started that features less races its not gonna change.

Also what real incentives are the ABA and NBL giving to teams? Riders can do their share by only buying bikes from compnies that sponsor teams, thats one of the reasons I have a Redline.

Any friend of Dolecki’s is a friend of mine. So if Robs friend likes you, well you know what they say, the friend of a friend is a friend.
Ant the forks wont help you win races, but the money will help your family.
    Sell em.
But if you want to try em first then no harm in that.

I hate doubles, I’ll just ride the driveway I guess. Nice vid Dave, I gave it 4 stars. First their was Road Fools, now do we have the start of Wood Gnomes series? Will Caveman be the next Spielberg?

in reply to: I gotta know this… #39750

Looked up to Caveman? Lenny? I never lost a race at the dustbowl as far as I remember. Man, cruiser riders get no love 🙁
But maybe u left before I moved back to NJ for 89/90. Cause the AW guys you mentioned weren’t on the team when me and Dave ran it.

Yeah the older kids on my street got me into BMX. In fact I bought the one neighbors Schwinn stingray after reading my first copy of BMX Action. I started buying parts for it from Guys Bike shop. They had a pretty good selection of BMX even in 1978.

But it was a TV commercial that got me to go to my first race. I didn’t knww that there were any BMX tracks on the East Coast till that commercial. Guy’s Bike Shop didn’t have a single flyer to a local track or I woulda started sooner. In fact I think in 1978 I went to the Yardley, PA Trenton (on Olden Av) and Hamilton Square (Rt 33), NJ Schwinn dealers and didn’t see a single race flyer while I was looking for parts for my Stingray.

4 bike shops less then 2 hours from 4 BMX tracks, they all had Schwinn BMX parts I still have the Schwinn Catalog from that year, but not one promoted the BMX tracks.

BMX got big in spite of apathy. Just goes to show you the power of riding a BMX bike.

hayden you ever visit one of my clinics? I used to finish each clinic off with Footdown in front of the parents. I would beat everyone to prove a point. I’d win and then say’ look at me I’m old, yet I beat all you guys. Sometimes older people actually do know what they are talking about. Listen to your parents. They love you and even took the time to make sure you got to this clinic. So everyone say thanks to your parents!”
parents loved it and made me feel good pointing them in the right direction. It was also fun way to end the clinics after all the teaching a lil unwinding.

Just make sure you break it down into big guys and lil guys or you have mayhem. Might be fun for you drunk bastards to watch though lol.

in reply to: Riches Hutch on E-bay? #39567

I just remember Heidi Mirasoula (screwed that spelling up). Man I still remember Hutch when it was just a bike shop team. Most of its riders were from Maryland. Hutch sold me my first set of chrome Arayas. He did so good at the mailorder thing and his team rocked, so frames where next and the rest is history.

Rich where you the only New Jersey rider? My mind is drawing a blank I cant think of any others but there must have been some.

    in reply to: 1974 #39500

Millville raced in 74? Was it non sanctioned then? When did it run its first sanctioned races. I know I raced it in 79 and 80. man how cool would it be to see some BMX racing results or pics from 74 or 75 or that era right here in NJ. Man Im so pissed no one told me back then or Id been racing since 74. (Thats around when I put together my first Sting ray BMX mod bike).

in reply to: The aba and the nbl need to be forced to work together… #39499

wOot someone remembers there is always a third option. A new sanction.
Thats the hardest though so Im sure it will just always be NBL and ABA. But Im still working on BMXL, we have a connection now for insurance and trophies and even membership cards. Still have to work it all out and it probably wont happen so maybe I should just give up now. Im not giving up on my vison, dont you guys either. I’ll just keep getting on the gate and sooner or later Ill get a holeshot. I think that what Brett is trying to say, just keep trying guys, maybe it will work and maybe not, just dont give up so easy.

Dave’s lol going yeah right Erick, you get a holeshot… sigh.. how soon he forgets. I’m going to train Caveman just as soon as I put down this twinkie!

in reply to: NJ 1982. #39498

There must have been some ABA tracks then cause alot of the riders I knew from 81 were not on that list. I moved to California Sep. of 81. So Im not sure what the track divide was like in 82. I know in 81 the ABA had Woodbury and Braddock, I forgot what sanction Vineland was in 81. Plus we had ABA tracks in NY and MD.

I know in 80 the last year i got alot of NBL points (I was all ABA in 81) the NBL had this rule, that points stayed where you raced. Since I raced PA and NJ my points always got split. One of the reasons I left for ABA.

Does NBL send the points now back to your home state or keep them where you earned them?

PS I got some stuff like that from as far back as 79 just no scanner yet. But I did buy a plasma tv home theatre for xmas 🙂 When the subwoofer kicks on during movies wow!
