wOot Dave breaks out the mid-school AW jersey. Designed by me 🙂
Dave not only got a scanner but after hours pouring thru the manual he figured out how to turn it on, now if he could learn to PULL.ErickWeinstetterMemberNo , strange u ask, it did have RF.
Ok today I got new batteries and took pics. Here is the link to the Vintage thread to see them.
http://www.vintagebmx.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=026287#000014ErickWeinstetterMemberI’m on myspace, using the track that started it all for me in my name.
http://www.myspace.com/vinelandbmxbut Ill be honest I rarely use it.
ErickWeinstetterMemberWelcome, in 1979/80 I practically lived at Martys. I used to take some Trenton riders to races, one I think it was Bob Ongradi. I was friends with Paul Smith who lived in Ewing near the Sunoco my dad had his corporate account with. The newspaper stories about the opening of Lawville had pics of me and Paul and Kim Wolfkill, who like me, lived just across the river in Washington Crossing.
I never did buy a bike from Marty but I did get some parts their and hung out with alot of the team. The only trails in Trenton I rode BITD where way out by the Whitehorse circle under some powerlines. The rider I went to Craigmeur with, his name escapes me, lived near them. Usually I rode trails near my house and had my own practice track. Those days were the best days of my life. Ok cept the night I spent with whats her name.
ErickWeinstetterMemberYeah thats one of my local tracks. I remember the year it opened. I dont think it ever averaged more than 12 motos but usually averaged 4 motos.
This track is in a metropolitan area of about 20 million people according to Rand McNally. The trailers are just prefab mobile single wides.
The track has little traffic that drives by it and it cant even be seen from the road or freeway.
I was at the 05 race Rich. Was a good race but OMG the crashes were so hard to stomach and forget watching it from the ground. I remember one Factory Girl overcleared a camel double or tabletop into turn 3 and landed flat bottom. From a regular table top this might not be to bad. But this one was about 12 feet tall so her head and body fell about 20 feet! The jumps and berms were so huge you had to stand up high to see most of the track.I wouldnt pay 10,000 for the track. The track isnt even really for sale its on land owned by the city or county. Had it included the land it woulda been a deal at 100K. Had it included a track with 40 or 50 motos it woulda been good. But a track that averages under 10 motos. I just dont get it.
For 100 K he coulda purchased land and built a track.ErickWeinstetterMemberThats why Im not racing cause of tracks like that Olympic tracks. Most CA tracks are not far from that. its stupid design and Bill I think you are wrong. I think you are plenty qualified to design an Olympic course. Youd be smart enough to take input from riders, input from TV producers for ratings.
I wont be suprised if they build to appeal to some inflated egos and then when horrific crashes happen it will do nothing to promote BMX or encourage riders to try the sport.
First they took BMX racing out of the X games , even though it had the most insanely hard tracks ever. Then they took out Dirt Jumping, even though it had the most insane jumps ever. Funny how the vert ramp which really hasnt changed much since the 70s is still in and Street courses that even a novice could have fun on.
Man imagine a sport where the new players can play on the same field as Pros. Like Baseball, Basketball, Football or Soccer. Nevermind, those sports wont ever catch on, they just aren’t progressive like BMX race tracks.
Word up US Olympic Cycling you did good, you progressed BMX even more. This is exaclty what BMX needs, harder and harder and harder and harder playing fields.
ErickWeinstetterMemberI almost didnt watch it. Wow he can do things on a Uni I cant do on a bike. I love how he rode between the copings and that thing where he fliped the bike around as he stayed in place on top of the phone both.
I never learned how to scruff and he did it on a uni wow.ErickWeinstetterMemberWell before Braddock and Howell were the top tracks in NJ the top dogs were Vineland (Ran by the Zeuners who also ran a bike shop, it ran under 3 different sanctions) and Craigmeur which was NBA at its peak and then went to ABA just before closing I think.
Your point is well taken though, tracks regardless of sanction should work together. Not just the Jersey tracks but PA, DE, MD, CT and NY also.
ErickWeinstetterMemberThe only one I was friends with BITD was Chris Blondek. In 83/84 I was out west, but he must have been 17& Over X or Pro by then. Funny each clipping he has 388 points then his membership must have expired cause he vanished.
His uniform and bikes were always dialed and he was hella fast and a nice guy. Not like I ever hung out at his house or anything, just at the races. In the two years I knew him i don’t remember him ever riding for anyone. But it wasnt cause he wasn’t fast enough. I’m sure Farside may remember him.ErickWeinstetterMemberYeah Dave me and you hit a ton of races, It was 89 or 90. I think the one year i finished PA-#2 and lost just one or two races the whole year lol. Wed race up to 4 times a weekend! Sat morning Deptford, NJ, Saturday night, Cedar, PA. Sunday morning York,PA Sunday afternoon Columbia, MD.
The last track to open was either Mullica Hill (NBL) or Secacus (ABA) both sometime in the early 90s. Over 10 years since a new track opened. Awesome job Hayden!!
ErickWeinstetterMemberMan look at the old Powerlite checker decals. My first forks in 78 where those. CW looks clean also.
I’m not sure what year Howell opened up but I raced it in 79 or 80. I know my mom took me there the first time and she died in 80, so it was probably 79.
Kevin whoever took all those pics thank them.ErickWeinstetterMemberMaybe get a local sponsor like the Hyper Pro Am series.
Each race at the 4 tracks is 100% payback plus added money from a 50/50.It would make a great Summer series event.
Hyper kicks in some cash for the top 3 Pros/A Pros/B Pros/Superclass/Elite or whatever they call the Pro class nowadays in NBL. $100-1st, $60-2nd and $40-3rd for the end of series awards. Plus the top 3 Am get prizes from Hyper and its sponsors. Like a Hyper frameset to the top Am in the series, a Hyper Uniform with jersey signed by Rich Farside for Second and a set of bars or something for third.Since its underground you can charge $15 to the pros racing for cash and the Ams pay like $5 each race but although they race the pros they dont get any of the cash just the glory of beating a pro or at least racing one and a chance for a cool prize at the end of the series.
All the prizes wouldnt have to come from the title sponsor, other companies could be asked to donate something and you could have a bunch more prizes then you think.
ErickWeinstetterMemberHalf the guys in rad were Orange locals. But I didnt get a chance to be in it as I was in the Navy. but it was cool to see locals on the big screen. I saw RAD in the theater and loved it.
I can still remember the intro and wanting to go buy a freestyle bike. I was torn between the lavender and aqua redlines or a green master. But I recovered. I cant remember if I bought my Profile crusier before or after the movie. But the movie was fun, showed real BMX uniforms. Had Lori Lauighlin. Had My Favorite Martian. Had Olympian Bart Conner.
I cant think of any BMX movie that featured racing as well.
Ive seen “Loser Takes ALL” and “BMX Bandits” both were very cool. But RAD has to be the best BMX movie ever.I wrote a movie about BMX racing. Its BMX racing meets Jerry Bruckheimer. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000988/ No goofy Rad stuff in it. Not that Ill try to get it made but hey it was fun creating it.
ErickWeinstetterMemberNice history, as someone who grew up in Washington Crossing, PA im ashamed to admit when I grew up there I could care less about the history. I remember riding around the town on the bicentinnial on my Schwinn stingray like (It was a Kent I think) BMX bike looking for places to ride. I built my first track that year i think on an island in the Deleawre near my home.
Wow I need a 12 step program everything relates to BMX.
back to history If you havent watched the History of the Revolutionary War on the History channel its a must see. All the streets named in Washington Crossing were named after Generals, many of who were featured in the epic biography. http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=76230
ErickWeinstetterMemberIt was 92 degrees today. The hills near my house are on fire, literally.
Ive been wanting to rebuild my old stomping grounds , colossas but we haven’t had a day of rain in maybe a year. -
