so far my aluminum Flight 24 is doing well – but I am partial to the steel – but I’ll wait to get sponsored before I change frames.
Dave – Bulldog make a cruiser?
March 22, 2006 at 11:35 pm in reply to: GEE I think this site should be called Rich FArside.NET #28922CrazyCraigMemberTales from the Farside.
The Farside of BMX
The list is endless……………………
CrazyCraigMemberThe Holy Rollers gripped real good – I think I’ll stick with them for now.
CrazyCraigMemberBeer Motocross Racing. Not sure it’s gonna catch on Dave. 😛
CrazyCraigMemberHere’s where you’ll find him:
http://www.qualiaphoto.com/home/index.htm
I have told him about this site – he should link up to it. He could be a great help/resource for many different things.
CrazyCraigMemberDave – I think you just opened up the door to a lot of comments. 😆
Regarding NJ Joe Kid – back in 84 NBC or ABC did a Kids-on-Kids special about BMX and taped it at Braddock. I know because they got two shots of me (leading my races, thank you 😛 ) in the footage they aired.
Anyone remember which network it was – or how to go about getting it other than just calling the switchboard at the networks?
If we are serious about this – I’ll track it down – but any help getting pointed in the right direction would be great.
I also have that book Brett that you see me on the cover of. It will take a little digging to find the rest of my stuff.
CrazyCraigMemberWog – I have not seen the skate park in Chatham yet. Where is the police station? – Are you talking Chatham Borough or Township?
CrazyCraigMemberXracer –
I work out out of my house some days – in Paramus others. If you’re gonna ride over there, give me a call. My numbers are in my biz site (look in links for members business sites)
CrazyCraigMemberRich – you got my vote. I am not trying to make your head swell – but when I first got around the scene back in the early ’80s, the biggest name talked about in Jersey was you – and because of what you were doing on the national scene. Thanks for all you do – I hope to earn your respect out there on and off the track.
CrazyCraigMemberAbout the only time my dad yelled was if he thought (and felt beyond a shadow of a doubt) someone was being allowed to get away with dirty racing while other’s got called on it. And even then it was only to the track director, no one else.
It broke my dad’s heart when I chose BMX over baseball, but he soon realized that no parent on the track could decide where and when and how much I raced – it was all up to me – my dad realized that baseball in our town was all about who you knew, unless you were just a total stand out talent they could not ignore. I was the tallest kid in the league at 12 yrs old and had the nastiest fast ball – and even my own coach chose his own kid over me for pitching time and thus kept me from a shot at all-stars. But – at the track – in my opinion – every kid who gets out there is an all star just for making it around the track and no parent should yell at their kid. Like Rich said in another thread – lets put those parents on the gate and make ’em race us – the vets – who know that “rubbin’s racing” (Days of Thunder).
Yeah – occasionally a kid will shut down at the wrong time and get passed – and thats when a parent has to find out if maybe he (the parent) wants to win more than the kid – and maybe putting to much pressure on them.
So parents, especially new ones, resist the urge to deck your kid out in a $2000 bike and $500 uniform until you are convinced your kid is serious about racing on a semi-regular basis. I have seen parents pour money into sports and then push their kids, but only because they made a huge $$ investment. Yeah, your kid wants to look cool at the track – but show the necessary restraint – we want your kid to still be in the sport when he is 30-40 like the rest of us (even if I did have a 16yr layoff).
Okay – I’m off my soap box.
Lets race!!!!!!!!!
CrazyCraigMemberas long as you let me eat a pizza (yes, a whole pizza) before the 12 beers, I’ll throw down with ya!
What, and you thought I just ate too much?
CrazyCraigMemberI could see Pawson in a shirt and tie but I might be a little too scary for them. 😉
CrazyCraigMemberI’m in!
CrazyCraigMemberI raced Vickers in the NJ State Series in ’89. Zalewski, him and me finished 1 – 2 – 3 for the series.
David Clymer – wow – I remember seeing him race the ABA ’88 Grands – the first jump was a step up step down – he would go big air over this thing – in his motos!! It was the coolest thing – 8 pros hitting this thing and then POP!…you’d see him just fly above the pack. I dont know how he was landing it without taking anyone one out. It was wild. It had that Supercross look to it. He is someone who would not be afraid of the Monster at Howell.
CrazyCraigMemberFirst, regarding Rich’s post about “if a 40yr old can clear them…” well, when I was next to you Rich on the starting hill at EHT – I swear I was hearing the same sounds as I used to watching “The $6 Million Dollar Man” BITD. LOL. 😆
As far as making the track’s easier…we’re on a slippery slope here. Braddock was cake…and the moto counts still went down and suffered. So I applaud Brett for being at a show talking it up. Its not just the jumps but the whole package we need to be concerned with. Since I am just back in, I am not here to criticize anyone, but just stating this to keep that in everyone’s mind, not unlike the drum Brett’s been beating for some time.
Still, as someone who was off the track for 16 years and off a bike for the last 10 I felt like a newbie. (yeah, I stopped riding. Wife, job, kids, all the excuses. How do you think I got fat?) For a near newbie (or rusty old semi-pro) I gotta agree the 4 jumps in the 2nd straight at EHT had me huffin and puffin. Yeah, I not in the shape I need to be yet but I felt like I had no time to pedal in between the jumps. And then all the jumps in the last straight (after I recovered from the third straight) was just too much, but thats me.
I haven’t been to CJBMX yet (ever) and am looking forward to seeing the monster jump as I’ve heard it called. And I am not looking forward to the quarry dust at Flemington, especially since this is the closest track to me right now.
Rich – you’re the bionic man – I commend you for being in incredible shape and racing at a very high level – 40 is only a number. But I’m in concensus here that the track has to reflect our local needs. More motos equals more opportunities for everyone involved – period.
And for those who might feel that if the local track isn’t national grade it hurts our riders – well, the nationals are supposed to be tougher than locals – they always were BITD – you go to enough you get better – and then you OWN your local track.
