Ya might just see me that night. I’ll work from home if I can that day so I can get out there. I need the gate practice for the nat – thanks!
CrazyCraigMemberBrett’s missing out on the whole 4 page thread about pro rookies. He is gonna be bummed when he sees that. 😥

Doctor’s orders: no racing this weekend – significant rib strain from digger at CJ two weeks ago. A rain out would not upset me!
But – as of now – I am racing the National – possibly against doctor’s orders. (wife not too happy either)
Only the First come back counts Craig!! Ribs will heal after the nationals.
Like I said Greg – I AM RACING next weekend. Period. It’s paid for, got the room booked, etc. Just can’t make it Friday – I have a church commitment I cannot break. I got my brother’s family watching the kids and got the wife to take the weekend off from church (she sings) so she can be there and maybe hit AC a little Saturday night. Woo-hoo!

CrazyCraigMemberGet well soon Brett!
CrazyCraigMemberCWCRIDER – What you said in your post sums it all up. Your son shows the need for a true rookie class. You said “its a whole other level of competition” at the nats. And this is because of the problem with professional/lifetime rookies.
When I raced ABA nats through ’89 – I do not even remember them having beginners at the nats. Does anyone??
The sad thing is because of rider counts, its gonna be hard to convince the NBL to cut rookies out of the National scene. They’ll be afraid if you make everyone move to novice or expert, they won’t all come because it will lower their chance of winning or placing.
Obviously the move-up points rules need to be addressed and ammended along with the NBL getting better at catching the offenders.
I vote for Jess as new president of the NBL! 😀
CrazyCraigMemberat $2.75 a gallon for gas – my little ’90 Mazda pickup is getting a lot more use than the family mini-van right now. It gets almost twice the MPG on the highway. The wife doen’t like it ’cause there aint no A/C in it, plus she can’t drive stick shift either. For that reason we’re taking her car instead of the Minivan more often now too.
I can’t control the price of gas – but I’m gonna control how much I use.
CrazyCraigMemberJess – see if you can get the info on that 17+ rookie and have the NBL audit him.
Unnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn-Believable. 😯
CrazyCraigMemberany chance we can turn Jersey back into an ABA state?? Or is everyone gonna throw rocks at me for even suggesting that??
I would love to here the NBL’s response to why is one of last years top ranked 16 rookies being allowed to race as a 17 rookie – and is now #1???
CrazyCraigMemberAwww Ham – ya can’t hang it up – don’t ya want to race me??? 😉
The Ham-inator will be bok 8)
CrazyCraigMemberMr. Turbo Air Burrito chiming in from Florida – whats up dude?
Back to Legend, cause this is his thread, ya got class bro. A lot of miscellaneous metal protruding from various parts of ya – but ya got class. 8)
…and beer. 😉
CrazyCraigMemberDon’t ya know? Every one wants to say they were top 10 IN THE COUNTRY! (year in, year out). Parents will tell ya its because little Johnny still needs to work on some stuff – they don’t want to see them get hammered by those “big” novice or experts. Little Johnny just needs more time. After 5 years he might be ready. C-mon – rookie is just a name – no shame in staying there your entire racing career, is there? I don’t think Little Johnny can handle the big boys.
Or, and I love this one, my kid just races for fun (and goes to 5-6 nationals a year).
Y’all know I’m kidding, right?
Parents and/or older rookies: Have you ever seen a 2nd or 3rd year player get “Rookie of the Year” in professional sports???
I think this has been beat to death pretty good on this site, but I’ll say it again: ROOKIE = Rider with basic skills on flat pedals for no more than one year or a certain number of races.
Yes, I did toy with the idea of returning as a 17yr+ rookie, but that got knocked out of me quick. But, if you saw my two falls in three races, you may think I’m not too off base, but that is another story.
But, so no parents rip me here (and I am a parent, too), I know there may be some kids out there who may never HONESTLY progress pass the rookie stage for many different reasons. I won’t elaborate, but I want you to know ALL kids are welcome in our sport and we will make every attempt to safely accommodate them all.
That said: if you are a professional rookie: STEP IT UP!!
OLD SCHOOL ABA: 5 First place finishes in Novice between your birthdays = EXPERT. Beginner was a temporary class with NO POINTS or rankings!!!
I understand tracks are more skill oriented now then in the past, so I see why the rookie class has evolved somewhat. But if you are riding Nationals with clips as a rookie and making mains, c’mon, give me a break.
CrazyCraigMemberwith or without clips? 😆 😆 😆
CrazyCraigMembersounds like a plan – I want to run the same equipment on both bikes (yes, the 20″ is in progress) so I will definitely look into them. Thanks Dave!
And to be honest – the ribs were still hurting from my digger at CJ – so taking the weekend off was not a bad thing. But…I did miss being at the track. So I guess thats a good thing.
CrazyCraigMemberI didn’t race yesterday but did get out for a ride. But it was probably for the best because I broke a pedal. If I had raced it probably would have pulled off at a bad time I’m sure. Funny how things work out like that.
…and they were new pedals that have not been ridden hard except for three races. I guess last week’s digger took its toll on my bike, too.
Hope y’all had fun! See you at EHT next Saturday for the qualifier. 😀
