You are absolutely right Ant as far as you are concerned. But, when and if you do decide to set certain goals, like Billy said, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to obsess for the right reasons.

I used to be a fairly competitive bowler, averaged 199 (never could break 200) and am a member of the ABC 700 Club. I have not bowled a full season since 1996 because at a certain point it was no longer fun and started to feel like a job. There were people there that obsessed over bowling, but their lives didn’t seem to be going anywhere outside of the alley. It stopped being fun for me.

I’ll be honest – I started to obsess a little too much over racing after coming back and tried to do too much too fast. Yeah, I’m doing alot better than my first race back in March, but if I had focused a more on just being happy to BE at the track and doing ANY riding, I might have saved myself a couple of injuries. It took a good conversation with my wife to help me be appropriately realistic and remember to stay within myself. My wife is not a dream-killer and supports me 100% but her instincts are very good and reminded me I need to be patient – it will come – just remember to enjoy myself and have fun.

Everyone has made some good points so far on this post, and if any parents have a racer that’s down on themselves because they came in third or fourth, etc., well just point them to this thread or seek out any of the veteran racers (regardless of what class they race) and we will all try to impart some wisdom on them if you need us too.

As of now count me in. Maybe my son too, I should have him set up by then.

Rich – suggestion: You said there are only 20 spots, but you should have a stand-by list just in case there are any last minute cancellations (hey, I got kids, you just never know).

If you need help administering this, let me know.

Is it just me – or is that the longest track anyone has ever seen??

That is a lot of real estate baby. 😯

    I dig the reference Brett.

After racing that track you will be resting for 7 days I’m sure.

Thanks for all the advise. Wow. I got a lot to learn.

The bike came with 20 x 1-3/8 wheels, as you said, stock on a Junior. Still, you have to see my 5 year old to appreciate him. He is big for his age. Tall and lanky.

Based on my expectations, I think he’ll do just fine on the Junior, but I won’t rule out a Mini frame if I come across one for the right price. If nothing else I have a head start on his next bike!

This is helping out alot, thanks.

Dan’s has the 0 offset stem, JR does not, but they have the DK mini Kev mentioned, plus that Sinz lever.

I’m gonna measure my kid’s inseam and see how it matches up with the size chart. I think 140’s may be a good place to start seeing how its definitely longer than the stubbies on his little 16 inch bike that he’s been riding up to now.

I have been doing more and more of this Brett.

There are two bike shops I frequent. One is more hard-core in attitude and the other is more “retail”, and I have been to both on my cruiser and I get alot of questions. “What is that?” is the usual response because there is nothing else like it in the store.

The cool thing about the more “retail” shop is I have had the opportunity to talk to some kids when I’ve been there. The easy access highway location attracts families pretty well. I write the website on the back of my biz card and tell them what to look for if they visit the site. I even promoted the site to some street/dirt jump types who had not heard about it yet. Those guys really did not know what to make of a 38yr old on a BMX bike.

For some reason I do not run into as many kids at the more “core” shop, but the staff seems to appreciate what I am doing more. They say they will help out by posting my results on their website. I will let you know how that goes.

I haven’t gotten down to my main street on my 20 yet, but I expect to see alot of kids there when I do, and there is a BMX Jam sponsored by Animal at Cycle Craft, Parsippany June 24th & 25th. Depending on the race schedule, I might go there and do some promoting one of the two days. You can call Jim at 973-227-4462 for more info or visit their website.

Let’s keep it going! We are all ambassadors of the sport!

I’m going to the State race at EHT this Saturday. I’m not chasing both sanctions yet. There is enough on the NBL calendar to keep me busy.

    Good luck Jess!

    Update on my knee:

Its appears to be fully healed (boy, I hope so) and I went out for some sprints last night. I think I put on a few pounds rehabing. Gonna have to work my butt off this week to be ready for Saturday at EHT. Woke up this morning and it felt fine. The ribs are another story. They have been hurting since the RV slam, but I think they’ll be good by the weekend too.

We’ll both be in much better shape by September – but the more I get back into this – the more I realize just how nuts I am.

I ran pretty good at Woodward BITD – but I know its been redone since then. By September we should be holding our own in cruiser.

    …and we’re doing this…why??? 😯

Just think – by next year’s Grands and championships – I’ll be in 40-44 Cruiser with Farside & Frank Young!

Gotta get back to those closets… 😆
