Time to start making phone calls Deb.

My wife and I have become friends with a former councilman (who is running again next year – lost the mayor’s race last year) and the guy is BIG TIME pro-kids. He has done alot for youth programs in our town.

I make no promises, but he knows I race BMX and I will start asking him questions about where to start and how to navigate the process in our town (Parsippany).

The last time I was at EHT two weeks ago (Brett, you were there) there was alot of after race conversations going on and eventually CC came up. Brett, correct me if I’m wrong, but the old guard that was at EHT that night kept lamenting that it did not seem to matter whether or not we went to CC because Bob T. and the crew already had decided everything before hand, CC was just a formality.

I joked it was just like the teachers convention which alot of teachers use as a reason to party in AC. They all agreed with me that CC wasn’t much different. Hmmm…

    Deb,

You are not going to make any enemies here by saying no rookies at the Nats. We all believe that is one of the things killing the sport, and we have probably beat the subject to death by now.

What happen back in the 80’s with 20+ tracks?

Like anything else the state went through the cycle of fast growth during the early stages when things were very exciting and new. But after the initial excitment a certain amount of racers probably dropped out and you didn’t necessarily need 23 tracks. I’m sure survival of the fittest played a small part in there as well. Some tracks were just bad. Good, well intentioned people running them, but bad tracks. I know cause I raced them.

I think we all agree what really killed things is the sanctions never figured out how to market to anyone other than BMX Racers, and history keeps repeating itself.

Obviously new kids keep getting involved, or the sport would be dead right now, but I agree with Brett that if you have more tracks around the state, you get more exposure and then attract more riders. Its that simple.

Yeah, right now when you look at current rider counts, it seems like opening a new track would just lower moto counts further at each track, but the goal is to attract brand new kids who never raced before. I am sure there are parents that would have no problem spending $10 for their kid to race if they knew of a track close enough for them to start at.

Thats my take on it for now.

How much to store a trailer?
donate a spot, Tax right off?

Wow, thats a “V8” moment if there ever was one. Someone with secure commercial property could easily do that.

The trailer storage issue will only bother me if he was getting an inflated unrealistic amount. If it were just a plain black trailer, then there are plenty of cheap places to store it, but since it has all the NJBMX stuff all over it, you might as well paint a target on it.

That said, if the fee was reasonable and properly voted on and disclosed, then you look at it as a stipend for keeping it in good shape (I hope). I know it wasn’t used for awhile, but we still have it and are now using it again.

But if it was not disclosed properly then we have an issue and it makes your mind wander and you start to think the worse.

Okay, not trying to start anything, but it appears that bonspeedMedia is a brand new venture, because there is nothing about it any where on the web that I can find except for the news releases and links back to the ABA site.

Yes, Brad is the president of bonspeed and they have built some really cool concept cars for several companies (basically tricked out versions of existing higher-end production vehicles). But no where do I find that they currently are involved ANYWHERE in actions sports promotion.

I am not trying to dis Brad, he did alot BITD, but the ABA makes this major news release touting a “media specialist” that I cannot find evidence of ever doing anything special in the media.

So it appears the ABA is rewarding one of their own instead of going out and getting an outside expert on promotions. I may be off base so someone tell me if I am.

The ABA brings in the outside advertising, like GameStop, which promotes sitting indoors all day playing video games. That doesn’t make sense either.

Well, it makes more sense than you realize. I have seen alot of racers playing with their Gameboys, etc. in between races. Alot of them buy the BMX & Skateboard games, etc., so its not a bad tie in. Most of our riders are kids (at all ages! 😀 ), so GameStop is pretty smart to know this is where some of their customers are hanging out.

But, A LOT more outside-the-box thinking is needed. Someone find Brad Fanshaw’s email address and drop him a line and hopefully he’ll “get it”. Y’know, I think I’ll go do that right now!
