Near the house I grew up in Morris Township, NJ, there was a pit jump back in the woods formed out of a drainage / runoff stream to a lake that had since been emptied. We used to stack tires up and see who could clear the most blasting out of the pit.

Well, in time I became the king of tire jumping, I think we got it up to 8,9 maybe 10 tires high.

Well one day me and some of the guys I rode with were heading down there and some locals were already there, one looks at me and says “hey, here comes that Crazy Craig kid and his crew”. It stuck.

What really made it stick was my propensity to let out a Yeeeee-haaaaa! at any given time at Braddock (and still doing it to this day!). Some called me Rebel Yell Wilson, but like I said, Crazy Craig stuck.

    35X Results at Woodward:

    Kelley Kelley 1st
    Tom McMurray 2nd
    London Wilmot 3rd
    Cliff Wissinger 4th
    Craig Wilson 5th
    Rob Bennet 6th
Pete Woghelmuth 7th (he had just come back from cruiser semi – totally gassed)

Congrats to Pete for taking 3rd in 35-39 Cruiser. He was hanging with Randy Greco all day! No joke – he was smoking and jumping almost everything!

    Regional results:

Farside smoked 40-44 Cruiser both races today.

Jeff Heath 3rd in the Regional Championship (he didnt race the National). He looked good out there.

    Tom won 35X
I won 35 Novice and took 8th in 35-39 cruiser (was in 4th, 5th place t-boned me in the 1st turn and we got tangled up)

Niall Bridgemanm was in the cruiser main, too, not sure where he ended up, possibly got 4th maybe.

Congrats to Loren Hamblin making the main in 35 Nov and coming in 6th. I do believe he made his main at the National as well. His kids looked real good too.

…and yes, you read right – I won 35 Nov. The NBL said I had to run Novice in the regional championship since I did not turn up before August 31st.

Pete did not race the regional championship because he did not race enough locals to qualify.

NJ represented very well today! Sorry I do not have all the results here. I just got home and I’m going to bed now.

    Wilson out.

…and I was beating Gordy most of the main until the third straight when Rodney Rice got squirrely and I flinched and went into the pro section. Dang!

Believe it or not Eric, I raced some locals this year with 7 riders in class, and they put us up there in two gates (4&3), but all riders made the main.

Eric – they have mains for every class at Nationals regardless of rider count. Both of your scenarios will have a main.

They will always drop at least one rider out of motos before the main.

5 guys in class = 4 in the main.

    6 guys = 5 in the main

Except for the elite classes, if there are 7 in class, you will have a gate of 4 and a gate of 3, and 5 make the main (drop 1 from each).

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If nothing else, ya gotta keep things fresh. But yer right – now you need 6 nats and if you blow a main, you will be looking to go back for another. Still, this puts the points where they belong.

When I first saw the title to this thread, I thought “oh no, Rich is at it again, and this should be funny…”

Wow, the NBL is paying attention, at least on this one. Now if they could just explain the logic behind a couple of the class changes. Hmmm…

In practice Chase used to grab big air off the jumps at Phoenixville. It was really sweet to watch. That little bugger started some trouble on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ during a Regional at EHT and almost got us killed by some guidos on beach cruisers. 😯 No joke.

But Dave, I sorta had a reverse experience from yours: my g/f of 2+ yrs broke up with me right before a big triple pointer there. I sucked all day, but made the main somehow. I came out of the gate last but then my brain says “WTF?” and I totally bonzai’d the first straight without touching the brakes through turn 1 & 2 passing 6 guys and somehow made it stick. Came in second at the line. Yeah, the rest of the track was not much, but you didn’t mind.

Yo George, what’s up? Crazy Craig Wilson here. Don’t know if you remember me from Braddock in the mid to late 80’s when you were younger, but I remember you. Its great to have you here on the site!!

Okay guys, here is the latest from the NBL regarding my move-up points:

For the win at the Howell Regional I was granted move-up points (2).

Yet, for some reason they are saying I did not earn move-up points for my win at Trumbull, yet there were two other 35 Novs in the Main that day. Uh?

“So kid, ya say ya wanna be National #1 Novice and you don’t care if it takes you 5 years to do it?” Well, it could happen! 😯

    See y’all in Woodward!!

It was ABA. It ran in 1984 from what I remember. I do not recall if it survived into 1985.

Who here besides me made the trip to the Phoenixville Track in 88 & 89? It was near Valley Forge. The first straight was an awesome downhill run!

Brett, no need to defend yourself. Those in the know are fully aware of your commitment to BMX in NJ and ALL that you have been doing. I have personally seen you with shovel or broom in hand at the track, not to mention going to town council meetings to discuss practice tracks, making flyers to hand out, etc.

Oh, and then there is inviting us all down to your house for meetings. And no, we didn’t all just jump on our bikes and go for a ride, we got some sh*t done that helped make for the best State Meeting yet from what I hear.

And, yes, I have seen you having tons of conversations at the track, but most of the time it is because you are trying to find out whats going on, how to make it better, and what’s on everyone’s minds. Networking is essential to growing this or any worthwhile enterprise.

And darn Brett, as if you don’t have enough to do, you get out there and take pictures so everyone can go to the site and see little Johnny out there looking like a stud.

For anyone who doesn’t know Brett, he was never asked to do any of this. He volunteered himself. He is using his talents outside of BMX to improve the sport he loves.

    Wilson out.

    Back in the saddle again…

Today was the first serious day of training since Kentucky. I needed to give my leg and shoulder a break, but gotta kick myself for not doing more cardio during that time. I could have ate better these last couple of weeks, too.

Did 2 sets of 20 crunches and 2 sets of 20 & 15 push ups, plus a full stretching session and then did one set of 15 vert leaps and one set of 6. The 15 was too much the first round. Still, it felt good. That was midday.

Starting at 5pm it took 1-1/2 hours to mow my back yard. This was not easy as I let it get to super jungle height. I’d consider this mild to medium cardio work with a good calorie burn.

Finished up tonight by going out for a 1 hour ride that included a round of 25yd sprints and some rolling 100’s. Had a lot of sidewalks and driveways to practice manuals and such. 2 weeks off will hurt ya a little, so I’ll be back out again tomorrow hard, then easier the rest of the week leading up to Woodward.

Dave – you are paying for the “event” not the number of qualifying rounds. If that were the case you should get a refund anytime a race gets shortened like New Paltz or South Park Day 1.

The two moto system is so you can get both races done in a reasonable amount of time.
