Yeah Brett, that guy has been on my “get to” list for too long, time to track him down.
What Brett is referring to is an old high school aquaintance of mine got into sports marketing right out of college and is currently the CEO of a major sport franchise. He is on the business side with expertise in sales & marketing, not the player side. His #1 job is building the “brand”. I do not want to give who this is away, cause there is no guarantee just how far I will get with him once I do track him down. But, if I told you the deal he brokered that put two monster names together for an event that everyone on this sight knows about, it would blow your mind. No giving it away Brett.
I know where he lives and I know where his office is located. I just gotta reach out to him in hopes of renewing an old friendship. If nothing else his insight could prove most valuable.
I’ll keep you posted.
CrazyCraigMemberWhat?…no clips?
CrazyCraigMember…and Buddha’s got a lot of “equity” left to sweat off!!
Just bustin’ Greg. 😀
Eric – Brett had pointed out that in the past CJ used to race double sanction – ABA & NBL on different nights. Do you see that possibly happening again, maybe getting tracks to run BMXL on a different day? Could it be done?
I know there was a thread on here about the contracts that a track has to sign, so we don’t need to rehash that, but just wondering if that is an option.
CrazyCraigMemberI’d like to see him clear the doubles at CJ with it!
Nice build Paul. Sweet.
CrazyCraigMemberPost the pics!
CrazyCraigMemberEric –
I don’t if it counts, but back in the 80’s, I think it was 1984, one of the 3 networks did a Kids on Kids special featuring BMX as one of its three stories for the show. It was filmed at Braddock. I think it was ABC or NBC. I gotta believe that wasn’t the first time something like that was done. I keep telling myself I gotta track it down. I was fortunate enough to be featured in two of the race clips used on the show. Very cool hearing “Crazy Craig in the lead” on national TV.

Wasn’t once enough?
…and Brett…I don’t think 35 Expert is gonna be easy.!
CrazyCraigMemberBrett –
Did the Black Suburbans ever track you down?? 😆
That was some funny stuff Jess.
CrazyCraigMemberIts a funny thing how all this moving up stuff works, and hope some parents and kiddies are reading this:
I turned X when I was 15, and due to an injury, I had very few 15X races, and soon found myself having to chase a super-quick Nick Dottino every week in 16X. I got LOTS of seconds. Eventually I did catch him.
Last weekend I raced 35X in the Nat and had to chase Tom McMurray and London Wilmot in motos. I almost caught London in the second moto (Tom was in the lead). And then I almost made a move on someone in the main (made it, but slipped a pedal after).
Then came the Regional Championship. With all due respect to Loren Hamblin who made the 35 Nov main, I don’t think it was a fair race. After chasing the experts, I found myself easily out in front. I even beat the other guy who turned up to 35X that morning too. The best part is I felt faster in cruiser. Chasing the experts dialed me up a notch and changed my approach.
For those that worry about moving up, don’t (except maybe us old guys just coming back 😀 ). You do not have to be winning Novice every race before you move up. You’ll get better faster once you do. I was amazed at what one race did. You will always race up to the level of your comp if you have the right attitude.
I think moving up to X helped Pete W., too, cause you should have seen him in cruiser at Woodward. He was hanging with Randy Greco and Rakin Nasheed in the main. I know Randy was curious about who the “new guy” was hanging with him in the motos!!
This has been a public service announcement. You may return to your regularly scheduled programming now.
CrazyCraigMemberBrett……….please……….lock……….this………..thread…………
CrazyCraigMemberJess – can you post the link to that thread?
CrazyCraigMemberBilly knows what kind of loaner I’m talking about…
click, click…
CrazyCraigMemberGeorge, for some reason I had not ridden ANY bike for 10 years. Long story short, when I showed up at EHT for the Jack Frost, its a miracle I made it around the track without medical assitance, and somehow did not come in dead last in 35-39 Cruiser.
I finally built a new 20″ in May but decided based on my skills at that point, I was better suited for Novice. After being off the track for nearly 17 years, I did not see any problem with it. Pete Woghelmuth did the same thing, as did Brett Middaugh (he was back first). I busted up several body parts getting back up to speed.
Every National I got better, and almost wished the season was 1 month longer, I might have made it towards the top of the National rankings, but now I am officially back in Expert where I belong. And its just like BITD – once you move up – you rise to the challenge.
