Holy cow Batman!!
CrazyCraigMemberNorth Jersey Shops:
At one time Marty’s Reliable Cycle sported a good team and a couple went on to the early Factory Thruster team. Mike Hundorf (spelling may not be correct) was one of them. Mike was a bad a** out of Morristown. That was back when Craigmeur was rockin.
Cliffside Cycle: Pete Woghelmuth and me both rode for them, with Pete staying on longer than me.
Action Wheels
The Original Bike Shop
JV Bicycle (James Vincent)
Cosmic Wheel
Help me out my Braddock brutha’s, I know there were more than this.
Heck, I remember when Beacon Bike Shop had a pretty big team in South Jersey.
…and, although not a bike shop team, there was this wild bunch called the Wrecking Crew that did some damage back in 1989…. but that is another story…
CrazyCraigMemberDave…who out there has open face helmets to loan? I might be able to borrow one from a friend, but its not like there are alot to go around.
CrazyCraigMember1997 according to someone on Vintage
CrazyCraigMemberMikey goes from getting pimped to doing the pimping…
Gee Mike, did you pick up some “skills” riding with the Wrecking Crew in 1989??? 🙄
CrazyCraigMemberDont remember the date but I remember the place…
Late November or early December 1981 Jersey City Armory. 14 and Over beginner. 1 footed start. I did not transfer (ABA). I bent the cheapy forks on my tri-moly ‘Goose in practice on the whoop-de-doos in the last straight (I didn’t know you were supposed to pull up for them! 😯 ). Very first race and we were already replacing parts. 🙄 But, I did make it up for motos (new Tange forks), and got hooked!
I came home from that race and the first thing my dad did was put a board on a wire milk crate and pointed it to the wall and said “you need to learn how to balance on the gate”. Way to go Dad!
I raced 8 races that winter, transferred 6 times and got 4 trophies (they didn’t trophy to 8th in those days). My first trophy was a 3rd place and I still have it.
CrazyCraigMemberCool 8)
Well, sort of…
CrazyCraigMemberIts not too late for buses, but the question I have not gotten answered is how to reach out to the NJ BMX community to see who really wants to make this work. The hard part is determining how much interest there is to make sure we get at least 50 folks on the bus.
CrazyCraigMemberI heard that when Dave goes to sleep he puts on one those subliminal message recordings. It was recorded at the PBR brewery. The soothing sounds of beer production. 😀
Dave was born 10-20 years too late – he should have co-starred in Strange Brew with Bob & Doug MacKenzie. Beer, heh? That could have just as easily been Dave putting out the fire at the end of the movie. 😯
Isn’t there a new movie out about beer drinking? Did Dave get a cameo in it? Or was he called in as a specialist to instruct the actors on proper technique?
We luv ya Dave.
CrazyCraigMemberWell then, it looks like I got three weeks to build my old Redline PL24. I got the black Tuffs and Comp III’s ready to go! Just need a few parts to complete it, not to mention a quick paint job on the forks.
I might have to borrow an open face though, I don’t know where the old one is.
I need an old school seat & seat post for the cruiser. I think I have everything else. There will be some new repro stuff on it, and maybe one or two new school parts (mid school 185’s and new school Shimano DX pedals). Doing my best.
CrazyCraigMemberI will admit attending the following concerts / shows in the 80’s:
Heart – cheesy on the new stuff, but they rocked the old stuff like Barracuda
Mister Mister – g/f dragged me to Great Adventure for that one
White Tiger – same thing
The Tubes – same thing
Howard Jones – again, same thing, except at Continental Arena
Echo and the Bunnymen (dont ask – at Rutgers – same g/f)
Steve Winwood doing his new stuff at the time – but at least he did some old stuff.
38 Special with Bon Jovi as the warm up (a good show except for 38 Special sellin out on the new stuff)
Screamin Blue Messiahs – Hayden’s other band (ha-ha). I have no clue how I ended up at that one.
Winger
David Bowie Glass Spider tour with Squeeze as the warm up
The Cure (at MSG – can you say contact high?)
But, to shock you all, I saw Grateful Dead at Giants Stadium (right after a Mountain Bike race). G/F had tix. It was an experience.
Those are not all the shows I went to, but the 80’s definitely were interesting.
CrazyCraigMembertoo bad you cant hang until the next weekend and the Veterans Day race.
This could be a good time to maybe, just maybe try to do a little NJ Old Schoold reunion. I’m sure we could find a centrally located diner somewhere to invade. Who’s up for it?
CrazyCraigMemberJohnny Cash????? Not even close.
I was eclectic in my musical tastes BITD:
Here are some of the first tapes in my first car:
REM – Chronic Town
Van Halen – 1984
Ratt – forgot name of tape but it had Round & Round on it.
Iron Maiden – Number of the Beast
Huey Lewis and the News – Sports (I think that was the name)
Weather Report – Heavy Weather (really good Jazz – I played some of their stuff in high school Jazz Band – yes, I’m a band fag – I played trumpet)
The Police
Oingo Boingo – I saw these guys in NYC, I think at the old Ritz – cool show.
Billy JoelI told you it was eclectic.
My mom listened to country, not me, but I’ll admit it – I have a Travis Tritt tape, but only because he does an awesome cover of an old Elvis tune – T.R.O.U.B.L.E.
CrazyCraigMemberYou need a reason?
