Mornings are bad on Sundays for me gents. Church. My wife sings and my son is in CCD classes.
I gotta believe one or two others are in the same boat as me.
If I end up being the odd man out, I will see what I can do as I know this is an important meeting.
CrazyCraigMemberBrett – I just found a pic from EHT in 1983 at the ABA East Coast Nats. I’ll keep looking, but as soon as I get this one scanned, yer gonna love it! Feel free to use any of the ones I sent you for my bio. I’m gonna send you one right now that Caveman scanned in from Deptford back in 1989.
CrazyCraigMemberits a totally enclosed indoor expo center, at least thats what it looks like from the pics on Vintage. They just held a car race the week before the grands (midgets).
CrazyCraigMemberOh, and build a Pro-series into it, with pots for each race and a overall winner (or top 1-2-3 riders)
I might be interested in sponsoring the series and maybe putting up the cash for the top 1-2-3 to get some interest.
CrazyCraigMemberIronman Series or Ironman Shootout, something like that.
(but let each race keep its own name: Fall Classic, Vet Day Race,, Ironman)
CrazyCraigMemberBrett,
In Bill’s post he brings up something. Should we have some sort of legal disclaimer on our flyers, just to be safe? (is there one already?)
Lets stay on top of this January meeting. The goal is to have it set in stone WAY in advance so we can all be there in force!!! I want to be at this one.
CrazyCraigMemberhow did he get voted asst. commish?
Onto the PA System: get prices Dave. Once we know the target, then we look to raise the funds.
50/50s can raise funds, private donations (we are a non-profit, right? – its a tax write-off, right?), we can sell “win a date with Caveman” raffle tix, etc.
CrazyCraigMemberat the banquet on Sunday I said to someone, and it wasn’t to be critical, how cool it would have been to wear your jersey on the podium with your plate.
CrazyCraigMemberwho is the referee?????
As far as paying the clerk. Well, we all saw how much Janeen did this year by herself. Would we lose her if she wasn’t paid? My wife is a teacher and she can tell all about stipends. She said its amazing how teachers will politic to get an extra responsibility with a $500 stipend. $750 may not be much, but its cash.
Comp Congress – yup, earlier this year at EHT I was standing there when just about everyone said its a waste of time, that your vote does not count, those in charge already made up their minds. You are there to just give your “blessing” to it.
CrazyCraigMemberCrazyCraigMemberHappy Thanksgiving y’all!
Watch out for those psycho holiday shoppers this weekend!

Cape May Court House- *** details anyone??
My friend who gave me the 83 ABA paper had pictures of him riding there. That doesn’t mean they ever held sanctioned races there. It could have been one of those tracks that never got finished but the ABA listed it anyway to puff up their numbers.
Dave, in 1982 or 1983 I talked my dad into driving me down to Cape May for a some sort of special race, maybe a triple-pointer (why else would I drive 3 hours?). It was ABA sanctioned. Very sandy, but give them an “A” for effort.
CrazyCraigMemberMight have been Delaware – the ABA East Coast Nats.
CrazyCraigMemberA lot of the kids that stick with racing are gonna run what everyone else does, and right now that is clips. If we didn’t have clips, then they wouldn’t know better.
I think if you ask any kid on clips right now which he prefers, he’ll say clips because that is the fashionable thing. Its the norm. I doubt you’d get too many kids saying “no I’d rather be on flats (and risk losing)” cause thats what they are thinking.
The only way you are going to find out if fear of clipping in was the reason someone stopped racing is by doing exit interviews. But I doubt anyone is going to invest in that. But, we’d learn alot if we did.
Preventing rider fallout comes back to what a lot of people have been saying and that is making new riders feel welcome, getting to know their parents, and giving them a way to contact you if they have any questions, ever. Those first couple of times a rider is on the track are critical. How we handle them and their parents will be a huge determining factor of whether or not they come back a few more times.
So yeah, I’m changing the subject here a little, but I know not everyone here is gonna do it, but those that can, be willing to “adopt” a new family, give them your phone number, and be accessible. This way they can call you when they have the questions. There is a saying I use in my business, and that is “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. Its all about creating “community”.
