I have been holding off on the cruiser waiting for the GHP. My goal is to race 40-44 at the Grands. If I can get it built by July, I should be in good shape. But, I would slap the Redline back together for a NYC trip for sure. But, I can hang on the 20 if needed. Just seems like the cruiser would be more appropriate.

Yeah, I guess we do need to pick a date and see what happens. See ya this weekend!

Whiley – do you ever get a day off during the week that is not a honey-do day? If so, let me know, we’ll have to go over to these trails and ride. It will be a good reason to put my cruiser back together.

Brett – when I have a moment I am going to go dig up some stuff on the “shall not kill” comment.

I am no biblical scholar, but in there God’s chosen people fought many wars. Many of the prophets brought God’s word to many of the kings to wage these wars. I am not endorsing all wars, but I believe there was a certain intent with that commandment. (personally, I wish there were no wars on this planet at all, but that would be an utopian society that I believe is truly unattainable for us in this world)

Lets look at it another way. Someone maliciously with intent tries to kill your family. Do you sit there and let him do it, or do you try to kill the bastard yourself? If it is truly self defense, was that wrong? No. At least thats my opinion.

But, back to the adult store. Lets be honest. Adult stores do to some extent cater to immorality. Am I perfect, noooooooo. Not preaching here, honest. But, if they were in the business of just promoting wholesome reproduction, there wouldn’t be an issue now, would there? I am sure a portion of their customers are fairly normal folk but I think Bill hit the nail on the head that here is some stuff that you probably didn’t plan on discussing with your kid this early. Still I believe there is a PUBLIC PERCEPTION that these places attract some weirdos you don’t want near your kids. I have no stats to back that up, but once again, public perception.

Brett – I gotta throw in my conservative view here.

Guns, when sold through the proper channels, do not promote immorality. Yes, occasionally someone, who seemed harmless otherwise, goes on a rampage and, well, you know, and that is very sad. But, overall, most, if not all, your typical bad guys out there buy guns and stuff through less than reputable sources, not your local gun store. Even if you close the gun store, the bad guys will still be buying guns.

On the other hand many people out there view an adult store as promoting immorality and attracting the sickos we see on TV abducting little kids, etc. Yes, that may seem like an extreme comment, but that is how they are viewed by some. And to put one across from a school??? I would protest that too.

I hope I am not the only one on this site that feels this way, although I am sure Rodney is gonna be asking for directions to the store. lol

Keep in mind there were no Rookies, Novices or Inters (ABA). So you had 60 motos of just Pros, Experts, Cruisers & Girls.

That had to be fun to watch.

I’m just curious how many showed up for 40-44 cruiser. (My b-day is August but would have raced this class based on UCI/USAC rules).

That photo with you under the Scorpion sign looks like the starting hill at Braddock. I think that is what Dave is referring to.

Eric’s crash happened in the main event of 30-34 Expert/35+ Novice. They had 11 riders today. I went up to announce the main event so I saw it happen.

Eric called me tonight and was surprisingly in good spirits all things considered. I guess the one bit of sunshine I could give him was he had the snap on the rest of the main. He came out on fire, and with the inside line had the advantage. Its just unfortunate the first jump had other plans for him. He said this is probably it, no more racing, but I also know it all depends on how things mend. The racing bug is a hard one to shake. Still, he said it will be 3-6 months of recovery after he has his surgery. Who knows?

I want everyone to know that his son Ryan came up to the tower and asked if he could say something over the loudspeaker for his dad as Eric was being attended to. It may have been hard to hear, but he said something to the effect of “dad, you were really doing good, I’m proud of you, hang in there.” Amazingly Ryan seemed to take it all in stride. Whether or not Eric races again he will always be his kid’s hero.

    See ya next week Eric.

    ahhh mud…good ol’ mud.

I haven’t raced a good mud race since I turned 17. It was a national at York, PA in 1984. It didn’t matter how you came out of the gate cause you went downhill to the first turn and just slid through it as best as you could. Alot of 8th to 1st passing going on that day. The main was nuts. I just remember afterwards my grandfather rushing me to hose down the bike so we could hit the road and get out of there. I was like “aw gee Gramps, I want to ride some more!”

A few years later me and the ‘Crew hit a triple pointer at the new Columbia track, 88 or 89, and I recall the track was total slop, so we raced on the grass parking area. What a mess. Uphill on wet muddy grass. But the race still counted.

See kiddies, we didn’t care what we raced on, we just wanted to race and have fun.

Nice pics Eric & Brad – keep ’em coming!
