This is a subject that I’ve been thinking about a LOT this year. If you’ve raced both sanctions there is no question when it comes to organization, competence and professionalism the ABA is miles ahead of the NBL. But when it comes to having a vision for the growth of BMX both sanctions are the same. Abysmal.

Neither sanction advertises to world outside BMX that I know of. Neither is actively trying to bring new people in. They simply rely on word of mouth and people stumbling across BMX tracks to keep BMX going.

They both advertise in Colin Stiles’ Transit Videos. Wow, advertising BMX to BMXers! Brilliant! They’re not trying to bring new riders in, they’re just competing with each other for market share. Then the ABA advertises in BMX Plus magazine with an ad that basically insults their readers. Then they have another ad that says, “tired of the same old stick and ball sports?” That’s obviously a dig at baseball only once again it’s in a BMX magazine. Do you think they reached any baseball players with that one? I could go on for hours but I’ll stop now.

The NBL’s bring a buddy campaign is a step in the right direction and we’ll see what will come of the ABA’s decision to hire Brad Fanshaw as their marketer. Hopefully he has some vision.

Believe me I’m bummed. I wanted to race some opens this weekend. My shoulder is toast. Everything else is fine. I don’t know what Whiley’s excuse is. 🙂

Are we allowed to consume adult beverages at Howell? Maybe I’ll do that and then get on the mic. That should make for some colorful announcing.

Leadsled, don’t even think about it or I’ll post video of your squirrely ass from Atlanta. 😈

I did drink a monster on the way to the track. Hmmm.

That’s not the first time I’ve scared people with those god-awful gasping sounds. I’m getting to the point where I can do that on command. 🙂

I’ll see y’all saturday. I’ll be the one watching.

Actually I was going SO fast that for a second there I went back in time to before chains were invented and I went OTB

A more likely story is I’m a retard and my chain was probably loose.

I got the wind knocked out of me but I didn’t break any ribs! We should do something for Farside. Like get him a gift basket with freewheels, grips and other parts in it. 😉

I think I can speak for Farside and myself when I say, !*#$@*!

Caveman’s feeling better. The worst of it is going to be my shoulder. Apparently I wrenched it pretty good. Thanks for taking me to the hospital, Chris. I was careful not to mention your name. 🙂 Luckily none of the nurses were hot as I smelled worse than I looked.

Whiley must not be happy with us. He kept running into downed guys all night. 😆 Sorry about that!

And in Richie Rich’s defense, I wish I had shaved before I got all these raspberries.

    Thanks to all.

How much is the Bob Warnicke race at Flemington on Sat? I’ll come and race both bikes if it doesn’t bankrupt me. 🙂

I wasn’t looking for any track that ever existed in NJ. I was more looking for the highest number of tracks that ever existed at one time. Assuming 83 was the height of BMX, if the ABA had 14 tracks and the NBL was headquartered in the state you could imagine they had at least 7 tracks which is a total of 21 tracks in NJ at one time. That’s huge! That’s an average of one per county. Maybe the NBL only had three but 17 tracks in NJ is still nuts.

That dropped to 2 in 1990. Deptford and Braddock both closed in the end of 89 leaving just Flemington and Egg Harbor.

So does anyone have an old NBL paper from 82 or 83? Or an ABA paper from 82? Craig may be right. 82 may have been more the peak for BMX in NJ.

I look at the state series an I’m listed in 35-39 cruiser! How funny is that? I haven’t been listed in the NJ state series since 94. But I’m behind Crazy Craig and Chris Whiley. What’s up with that? MUST….. BEAT…… WHILEY…..

Chris wants a Caveman forecast. I’m flattered. Here you go:

The Caveman forecast calls for ballups up and down the east coast. Both the ABA Mass. national and the NJ state qualifier will be rained out.

The Caveman’s Almanac is predicting a drought for the summer of 06 except when there are BMX races in which case it will rain and hail just to piss you people off.

I actually want to go to the ABA race in Mass but I’m on call for work and it might rain here and there so I’m getting hissy again.
