Jeremy Smith went? I so picked the wrong year to skip.

WTF, I’m going to ride the road bike. I hope to hear big things when I get back.

You want the best of both worlds? Use the NBL system where all three motos count (called total points in the ABA) but then award points like the ABA. No points awarded for motos, everybody gets one point for every rider in the class, and main finishes are worth points. Actually, that’s how pro is done. For example: with a class of six riders, five make it to the main. The guy that wins the main gets 106 points: 100 points for the main win plus 6 rider points. The guy that gets fifth in the main gets 46 points. 40 points for his main finish and the 6 rider points. The guy that didn’t make the main gets 6 points. And that’s how it should be.

The NBL recently did an unbelievable thing and finally after 30 years changed their pathetic way of awarding more points for motos than the main. Took em long enough. But it’s still not perfect.

All the same I don’t have a problem with the ABA’s transfer system. Motocross is done that way. It’s a lot easier to score and it’s very easy to run mains at local races.

Come to think of it, if you combined the NBL and ABA way of doing things where every moto counts and you always eliminated one rider and went to a main it would be a ball up. After motos were done you’d have to tabulate the scores to see who made the main and then print up main sheets. For every class. Can you say “cluster something”? The ABA way works fine.

Debbie, I may agree with you that when people that don’t have a chance in the motos sit down that makes for bad spectating. But Bill’s right. The motos are preliminary. It’s the main that counts. I could go on for twelve pages so I’ll stop right now.

And Linda Dorsey is a good announcer?!?!?!?! Don’t get me started on that nutjob. GARCIIIIIIIIIA! Shut up you stupid hippie and stop dressing like you’re 18 because YOU AIN’T!

Jim Reilley and Mike Redman on the other hand are the shihozz. Heck. I used to announce pro mains at ABA nationals when I didn’t make it in. THAT was fun to announce. Beats announcing a moto with three 8 rookies all spaced 40 feet apart. I never did the grands though. And I won’t do it next year because I’ll be IN the main.

It’s a huge place but being in Tulsa, OK probably makes it at least somewhat affordable. They probably couldn’t afford something like that in Philly for example. I’m definitely not missing next year.

Aww, it’s not that big. So what if you can spot the arena from the air as you’re flying in.!
Phil has so stepped it up. He was there last year and if I remember correctly he didn’t make his main in am.

Phil wins A pro at the ROC?!?!?!?!? Can you say !@#$!@#$$! That’s huge. Him and Kapes are going to be battling in AA soon. And Veltman’s racing Vet? That’s hot! I haven’t seen him in years. I raced him in 88 and 89 in amateur.

Liz Passwaters gets 7th? WTF? Austin Loebe gets 8th in 13X. Not bad for 39 riders. I so want Carnes to win the Vet title. He’s the man. If you saw the bs move that Parry laid down in the last turn last year, you’d be rooting for Carnes too. Looks like Bubba will rule the world for another year. By the way, the ABA had the results up on their site shortly after the race was over.

Debbie, Pros run first, then open, girls, cruiser, then boys from young to oldest. So 16X is closer to the end. Did you pay to see it? How many motos for the grands?

And to think I was going but I backed out! I picked the wrong year to skip it.

Rich you’re right, it is 92. Iwent back and looked at the batch it came from. I was saying it was 95 because Dan Mlezco is wearing the 94 Veterans Day Race sweatshirt. I know because I have the same shirt. Only I THOUGHT mine was the same shirt. The 1991 shirt must have had the same design.

Anyway between you and Dan you got them all. Rich you win the prize. Have some Skoal.

    1. John Vickers (wearing the CB Video jersey)
    2. Doug Luden (And that’s Mickey, not Minnie)
    3. Richie Rich
    4. Marc Inella
    5. Dan Mlezco (wearing what must be the 91 Vet’s Day shirt)
    6. Jerzey Szawan
    7. Chris Diaz (gate jumping little bastard)
    8. Brad Shepley (wearing the Coastal jersey)

Notice how those are all Zeronine or Dyno number plates. Also notice how everybody’s wheel is touching the gate as it drops? For all you newbies out there, this is before the days of the air ram and the gate dropped slower. With a full gate of 18x’s with perfect timing, they’d actually help push the gate down.

The other pictures from that roll include Jeff Lamb wearing Zubas stripes and the building of Mullica Hill. Perhaps I’ll break down and buy a scanner this weekend.

Dan, you’re so close. You’re wrong on gate 2 and 3. Perhaps gate 3 could come on here and straigten it out. Hmmmmm.

Paying the clerk and referee: I was unaware of this until the September meeting. How many times have I asked for volunteer help from the announcer’s tower saying, “BMX doesn’t happen unless we all pitch in. This sport is run by volunteers as nobody gets paid to do this.” Then I find out the clerk and referee get paid! That makes a liar out of me. I certainly won’t be saying that from the tower anymore. Even though I think it’s indefensible position, they may defend it.

Competition Congress: You will notice at the September meeting they defended this to the hilt. Whereas Linda Vanderhoff had previously said it was a waste of time, at that meeting she also defended it. They all think it’s a great thing where you learn a lot. Not only that, it seems to be necessary if you’re going to be part of the glorious NBL.

It’s going to be tough to tell these people that these things should be cut. I’ll back you on the paying the clerk and referee issue though.

Of course that’s him. Those were quite possibly the coolest uniforms of all time. I remember the rumor was that Brent Romero lied about his age and was racing a younger class for easy wins. Whadya think Rich?

By the way, nice hair. Mine used to look like that too.

We had Binghamton BMX as part of our series before. That ended up pretty inconsequential since they were so far away. I certainly wasn’t going to go that far for a state qualifier. I probably won’t go to Pottstown either. Other people probably will though.

I think it will be pretty inconsequential. (I like that word) It just adds two more state qualifiers that everyone can choose to go to or choose to skip. So go ahead and do it. It won’t be of any benefit but it won’t hurt either.

What happened over the weekend really got to me and I’ll speak a little bit about this now. I am so massively concerned for NJ BMX after hearing that Jim Fillipone is now Asst. state commisioner. I think everyone that knows him agrees he is not all there mentally. This is not good. That guy will drag us back into the dark ages if we let him. He seems to be against any kind of promotion or professionalism. It seems he thinks the smaller we are, the better. He’s going to be a huge obstacle not only to the PA system but to a lot of things you’ll want to do.

I’ll talk to Nancy Haugh and see if NJ BMX has enough money to entertain buying a QUALITY PA system. If we do, I’ll continue to pursue it. If not, I won’t.

I hate to be so negative but I forsee big problems with skull-fuk as asst. state commissioner.

    Brett, use whatever you want.

Debbie, I’m a BMXer, drummer, engineer, photographer, announcer, …. motivational speaker, realtor, physical therapist, clairvoyant, incubus (look it up), sculptor, notary public, orthopedic surgeon…….. a lover, and last of all, yes I am a comedian.

This looks like a good place to post some pictures. Hope that’s cool Brett.

Rich Farside, up close and personal-like.

The ladies man, getting his snap on. Buck Taylor is not impressed.

Timmy actually looks fast in this shot. But we know better.

    Cassidy Cox is either:
    A) Really, really, really happy to see me
    B) Doing her best Chuck E Cheese impersonation
    C) Letting one rip

Ponies in the gate for the first semi. Allen Currier has that, “I’ve got this one in the bag” look on his face. He did not have it in the bag.

16 open main. Technically, Danny Smith is leading the race at this point. Enjoy it while it lasts. And Weimar, we need to have a talk. What the !@#$ are you doing?!?!?! Either learn the slingshot or give it up. Don’t make me call the BMX police on you.
