Well it is finally here. After watching the event come together, today we cruised into the arena and man had the atmosphere changed! Can you say B – I – G? 125 motos tonight for the pre-race. Every factory expert I can think of is here and none riding the pre-race. Practice rounds were huge. Tons of local NBL friends taking their first visit to ABBA-ville. it was like a Sesame Street moment aobut “one of these things is not like the other”…. Cool to see everyone stopping by and digging the energy that is a well run, in-door race.
Security is tight and a litle over done as the arena folks are struggling a bit with the frenetic pace of dads, trailers, kids EVERYWHERE. Word of the destruction of the Prim race has filtered so they’re being tough. many of our biggest fears are the paents who desert their kids while swilling at the bar. Hopefully, maturity will win the day and we’ll get invited back.
The hotel is busy. Not only is there our event, but there is a big boxing event AND a big pool party. A bar-tender friend of mine there was dreading the night…..
After a little gate isues, practice went great. Hard to get lots of laps as it was so crowded. The track is small, but really good given the space and though a little soft today, the billion laps going down today will solve that.
Bradford and Fabio Fox both saved their bodies from this event preferring to protect their training and financial investments to rep the US of A in Brazil next week. Kudos for seeing the big picture, our country’s pride and the fact that this trip ain’t cheap. Love both those kids AND their well held priorities.
There will be plenty more races round the corner, but only one shot at the Worlds right before the Olympics.
In other news, Lasaahn Kobza is no longer in yellow. He’s decided to go to Formula and prepare for his Pro debut next year and get pics in mags. Best of luck to you Lasaan from your many friends at On-Trac. And good luck with the new sponsor.
I hear more mid-year recruiting is afoot so keep your eyes posted.
The track’s size looks like there aren’t many passing opportunities if you don’t win the hole shot. Turn three is the widest so I expect/predict carnage in Turn three. Just like I still expect North of 300 motos.
My favorite part of the race so far… the Arena bar is open for over 21 year olds. I walk in, being WELL over 21, and what do they have on dozens of flat screen TV’s? The BMX practice. “Live”. Word is that Clayton is working them to show the races in the casino, in the rooms and everywhere. Now how cool is that??????
Viva Las Vegas!!!!!!!!

July 17, 2006 at 12:07 pm #32515LeadSled1MemberIf you want to see what the races are all about there is an ABA national in Philly this weekend. It is a totally different atmosphere. With less than half the qualifiers as the NBL the comp it always tough.
July 18, 2006 at 1:28 am #32539MacdaddyMemberYeah, we are going. I think a few other racers are going also. If anyone shows up look for the young cmr racers and come on over everyone is welcome. I think we are going to bbq.
