August 25, 2006 at 6:03 pm #33622CavemanMemberOK, you are both on my list! And I don’t have stitches anymore. I took them out yesterday. By myself! With rusty scissors! I’m tough like that 🙂
Where were we? Oh yeah, ABA tracks in NJ. Rock on!
August 25, 2006 at 7:12 pm #33633bmxmom156Memberwho are the people who are going to run these new aba tracks in nj?its one thing to train new rider’s parents to do things like corner marshal scoring but the many jobs it takes to RUN a track but start up from scratch i would think you have aba ppl(parents or riders who already run aba and live in the areas of these proposed tracks) in mind to do that?
i keep hearing grow the sport but you have to have soneone who has a working knowlege of computer /registration skills/ how to run a race all that most reg folk dont know about.
i would like to see them add 1 track see that get up and running see how it goes then add more as you see fit in other areas. i think adding 2-3 at one time as risky unless like i said you already have the players lined up.
August 25, 2006 at 7:25 pm #33636CrazyCraigMemberOh, we got playas all right. I think enough of us are ready.
August 25, 2006 at 7:28 pm #33639bmiddaughMemberCraig’s right, there’s enough of us wackos to get this rolling..
Scary thing is, we’ll all work together.
September 9th could be an interesting afternoon for BMX in NJ.August 25, 2006 at 7:41 pm #33641bmiddaughMemberSome people see things as they are and wonder why.
Others see things as they should be and say why not.
We all know the guy, whatever you’re opinion of the person who made up the above quote, we can all agree it takes people with vision to make things better.
I heard some person say the other night that when they get approached by a new idea they think of all the reasons it can’t work.
Well if it is a good idea and has the right purpose, I think of ideas why it should work.
Damn the impossible.
Can’t do a backflip on a bike kid.
Can’t run your own ramp park kid.
The hell we can’t.
And we aren’t kids anymore.
But we are adults with that same vision.
Why the hell not.
(This rant isn’t directed at Debbie, I’m just trying to stir up that BMX fire in all of us…hehe)August 25, 2006 at 8:26 pm #33642bmxmom156Memberok now i am insulted… Razzes i didnt think it was directed at me …till i saw you type my name in there…jk brett ( ps i like these new little guys)
go for it!! thats what i say- dont want you guys to think you are all walking in there peaches and cream and all cause be prepared you know what i mean…
i just ask the questions that i know others will ask so you will be prepared for your meeting ( sorry i cant be there would love to be a fly on the wall though) and have your answers ready. the more ques we ask now the more answers we will have later and thus more solutions..
August 25, 2006 at 8:59 pm #33648imwatchinMemberWho said there would be new tracks? If this is the best the NBL can do for NJ you know the ABA will go the extra mile.
August 25, 2006 at 9:01 pm #33649RaidenHaydenMemberBrett, I think you hit the nail on the head!!! When an individual sees you come up and pay an entry fee to race, I think they look at you in a different light. Like you are a kid, and not like you have any life experience!!! Therefore you are given no credibilty, what you say doesn’t matter. All I want, and this has been the long term goal, is for as many kids to have the fun I had through BMX, and the friends it has given me. When I see the sad state of the sport, I think of how many are missing out!
September 9, 2006 at 4:42 am #34462ErickWeinstetterMemberAlot of it is up to us. i live out west for now. But when I was living back in NJ once me and Dave went to Vineland for a City Council or Parks dept meeting.
We told them we were interested in repopening the old track and they wanted more info.
I lived like 2 hours away and just never went back (I dont know Daves excuse, probably school, yeah like thats important). In California you can pretty much forget opening a track unless u get lucky, but if I move down south like I plan to, I will open a old school meets new school track (before I get to old to lie about beating Dave).
Its all in the committment. think of what you want the track to look like, picture it in your minds eye. then think of parks that could hold a 2 or 3 acre facility. Or consider buying 2 acres of land and incorporating it so your not liable. Maybe get a local shop to partner with you and they get a onsite space for a trailer at each race.
I regret not going back to vineland, i regret not working hard to bring back the Saylorsburg, PA track that is still there under weeds. A downhill track that could be the jewel of the East Coast if done right.
No more regrets 🙂
September 19, 2006 at 5:54 pm #34860bmxer901Member-so how is everything going with the aba comming to nj. is it a no go or is it actually gonna happen.
September 19, 2006 at 9:35 pm #34863bmiddaughMemberUntil we can get a place to build tracks this will be dead in the water.
I hold out hope only for practice tracks to get kids places to ride.October 27, 2006 at 3:13 am #35797ErickWeinstetterMemberBrett try the City of Vineland.
http://www.vinelandcity.org/resources/contact.htm
They still have the park and the space for the track is still undeveloped.
With the Olympics coming up I think they would be very receptive.
Take with you an ABA info kit so you can cover there worries about insurance etc. Look for the links and info on this page

Call each cities chamber of commerce and see where their parks are.

They had a track once, maybe with the Olympics they will consider it seriously again. Walk the property seee if the area of the old track is still open. Or maybe scope out a new spot on the property that would work well.
(there site links were not working)Maybe contact and try working with MTB races

why just MTB maybe theyd expand into BMX, it would mean they could try to cross market to dads bringing their kids to the area and to older riders who can cross train on MTB
http://www.campmor.com/html/h2h.shtml2 NJ Cycloss races
If they have room for cyclocross they have room for BMX 🙂
http://www.midatlanticcross.comEdison, NJ raritan Challenge
again room for MTB races surely room for BMX.
maybe one of the guys behind the MTB races- raced BMX and would dig it!
http://www.racelistings.com/register/events/flyer.asp?ID=380NJ Bike racing Association
Each track they help launch would bring them new membership 🙂
http://www.njbikeracing.comFinally take the men stepping up BIG in NJ to bring BMX to every corner of the state to stand up and be counted.
Have them list their city and the counties in their area.
Then they contact counties in their area and everyone has a region to cover. You can post their initials or name over each county to see whos covering what area. (More than one can cover a area)
