i was wondering how he was doing post op- is he home or still in hosp?
that seemed like an average crash you would see at any race…just a reminder on how impt it is NOT TO MOVE someone with a possible neck injury… also DO NOT REMOVE the HELMET. please pass this on to anyone who medics or any parent who witnesses a crash that may involve neck/ back injuires…

bmxmom156Membergloves//// what a no brainer??
when the new parents sign these poor little 5 yr olds up maybe the person taking the paperwork can “HIGHLY SUGGEST” they get gloves for the little guy/gal. i dont know how many times i see a parent carrying the little one off the track not to return to the next moto casue their hands are all scraped up.
wake up mom and dad!!
also the bike inspection person can also “HIGHLY SUGGEST” gloves.. i see these kids riding around on these high end 12 lb mini bikes( we all did it) so i know its not the cost of the gloves thats keeping them from wearing them. our td always announces it during the little guys races to remind parents that the hands go down first, mom and dad.
if it is the cost how bout encouraging folks to donate the outgrown gloves to the track and just keep them there in a box. you would be suprised if yu hand a kid a pair he will 9 times out of 10 take them say thanks and be off racing again.
just my 2 cents
bmxmom156Memberok my ques is this…. if you look at thier site( ENTER) then go to( ACCOMODATION) it says “book by aug 31”
what is that?? do they mean THIS aug 31st? we find out about this usually around christmas? isnt that whent he nbl posts the travel plans? then you scramble to find flights/ etc?
i also read that there will be probs finding hotels due to the national lacrosse team playing in the same town(victoria) as the worlds venue? so booking has to be WAY in advance.
now maybe i am a little slow but i still dont see ANYWHERE on the nbl site a specific qualifying criteria link for challenge classes?? i even emailed the person in charge on the organizing end of the worlds( some email they have for info on thier site) and the man was very helpful he emailed me back within 24 hrs and said that my sanctioning body(nbl) has to decide that and to check with them that they dont even have it on record what that is yet as of this date….. such organization!!
if you are going to be 17 yr old for next yr its a little co mplicated as to what class to run how to qualify and such…i want to see it in writing someplace.??? is it top 16national? earn a point at an elite race? what is it?? how can you decide if you want to go if you dont even know if you can qualify?
not even talking about travel plans that seem to have to be made on your own way in advance. do i hear travel insurance anyone?? would that have helped the riders who got bumped on that now defunct airlines? just trying to avoid any fiasco that happened this yr.
bmxmom156Memberdosnt seem that its unusual seems like its par for the course. that is not acceptable.
when we were at ky for the indoor worlds race we came into the arena and they were using some bobcats and other equip in an enclosed space without any ventillation( no ac/ no recycled air nothing) the dirt was wet and wasnt drying. but more importantly the bobcats were emitting some sort of emissions( co)that you could see floating in the air ( normally not visible) it was not a healthy situation. my husb works in hvac ( specializing in indoor air quality) so as you can imagine this went over like a fart in church.. he tried to speak to the maintanance people in charge concerning the air and its “unbreathability” and the responce was they didnt want to turn on the ac or air systems as the filters cost alot ( a whopping $75 each) and they were told not to turn it on yet… so as a secondary effect the dirt didnt dry ( no where for the moisture to evap to) so like i said this was not good… the riders when the practice did start and race had the softest track ever which didnt dry by race time. it was better but not worlds quality surface by any means…
this is what i am talking about when i get ticked off..it seems to be about money and incompetance… the volunteers are wonderful its the ones directing the show who are not held accountable. our riders deserve better.
when you dont correct your mistakes you are doomed to repeat them
bmxmom156Membermy intention was not to get anyone ticked off or whatever.. i started reading about the team usa going out and then the stories started about the screwups and travel( does anyone know how it was a coincidence that 200 racers were on the airlines that went under? and was it the travel agency used by the nbl?
i am all for supporting the team and all but i just got upset the more i read.
if anyone can shed some light on the subject please do….
bmxmom156Memberthere is nothing revolutionary about my post – i am saying this as i am sure there are many other parents out there who love the sport and work damn hard for thier money that they spend on it. we have traveled to other parts of the country for other sportingevents/ nationals that my son has competed in and i have never seen the incompetance( sorry about the spelling) that i have seen in bmx. its one thing to be a fluke mistake one year out of 10 but this is getting to be the norm and almost “expected” year after year. i know its not a perfect world and s*** happens but somehow this has to change if the sport is entering the olympic arena in 2008.
bmxmom156Memberjaneen that sounds like a great idea/
would you want every family to bring a dish( pot luck) or dessert??
bmxmom156Membersorry janeen i didnt see you already posted it… i must be tired from the ride home..lol
from what i see they only do it at 2 of the 4 tracks so far but are talking about expanding it to all 4 tracks next yr.
they did use start up money donated by the parent who thought up the whole series idea(mr maher) so if you have any questions feel free to ask him he can explain any of the financial nitty gritty…
